Description

Same place as yesterday. That building on the left attracts the attention. I've zoomed in on that building. Does the name Lothar still not trigger anything in memory? Allright, I'll give another clue. Lots of Germans, French people and Swiss people bear this name still in their memories. And it's from long after World War II. Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia II 100, 100 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

I have always think that mountains give us the right dimention of our tiny place on earth, we destroy a nature thats is milion times more powerful and gigantic than us. Very impressive image. Thanks for sharing.

@majikart: very original, you show an impressive historical knowledge! However, this baron is not associated with anything on this picture (as far as I know). Keep guessing!

Tomorrow I will show you the answer but I still hope someone finds out before I give the solution!

OK...I did a Google search and came up with Alfred Lothar Wegener -- the originator of the theory of continental drift. Perhaps correct? My imagination sees a face in the rocky cliff...

@bleachfix: Google provides lots of information about Lothar. But what Lothar is involved here? Well, about those continents, that's quite close, because you are looking here to one of those alpine wrinkles you're looking at, but in that case I would surely have mentioned the name Wegener. You are getting closer!

Well, The only other person(or place) that I thought of was the german monk by the name of Martin Luthor but His last name was spelled differently; By the way, I noticed down the mountainside just below that structure a whole grove of trees have been knocked down.

lothar = name of the winter storm in dec of 1999 that crossed northern France, southern Germany and Switzerland within a few hours, leaving a path of destruction. The next day, Martin (another winter storm) passed through further to the south, also causing heavy losses in central and southern France, northern Spain, Corsica and northern Italy. Lothar and Martin generated economic losses of some USD 12 bn and USD 6 bn, respectively. Of these amounts, USD 6.2 bn (Lothar) and USD 2.6 bn (Martin) were insured, while USD 3.8 bn (Lothar) and USD 1.6 bn (Martin) were reinsured. These sums are in the top range of losses caused by winter storms in Europe to date and can be compared only with those triggered by the series of winter storms in 1990. - so what do i win? a post card at the least, i hope:o) very cool picture btw. very epic - :o) ps - hope i'm not wrong - or I WILL look like an ass :o|
