Description

just a quick pic thats rather obviously based on starship troopers, it started off as another possible entry for this months challenge but now theres more cg than photo so it probably doesnt count as a composition anymore. anyway i dont own a super computer hence the minimal details on the models, heres some nice lil stats... -325 bugs -5 bug texture variations -3 model variations (alive/dead/injured) -only around 50`000 polys per bug -4 different animations for bugs closest to camera -the rest are controlled by a particle sys designed for flocking anims (particle instancing...blah blah blah..) if i can find room in the scene id still like to add a dropship in there somewhere. also i`ll do a GI render sometime as its currently rendered in maya 4 default renderer. i did render an untextured version with GI and it took almost 2hrs so maybe i do the textured one overnight or something... + it looks a lot better in motion but even half finished the anim is 30(ish) meg in divx format, which is waaay to big to post anywhere. (this version has had some serious color correction as maya made it all a bit dark) comments welcome...

Only 50,000 poly huh? And 325 bugs huh? Sounds like you are trying to kill your computer. Heh, good show Tristan. I've got my eye on you.

WOW great stuff!! very nice blur on the ground! ;) I agree with meshed up..with my actual pc I can only dream scenes so "poly-dense!" :) the corrected one looks better imo! keep it up!

looks a lot like the movie.... and the fact that you based a render off of a good movie makes it better. IF i could add a ranking, it would be excellent. Nice job. You blow my Maya skills right out of the water

Fantastic image... but i dont agree with oshio about the smoke... the way the "mini nukes" trail in the image is very close to the movie.. Bravo :Vote:
