Elsbeth Taurillai had never been happy at home. In the forests of Cantellzan, she was fated to a slow, agonizing death from boredom and duty, a death that would take hundreds of years and leave her bereft of youth, beauty, and all hope of glory or adventure. Guarding the groves of the elven villages and playing with faeries in sun dappled pools might have been enough for the common elf maid, but not for her. She wanted more. In the spring of her one hundred and twelfth year, she snuck out of her home in the branches of the Life Tree of Turlock Village and stole her father's prize Foxmoorian Steed. With her Cooshee and her Mythral Falcon, she set out for the west, no idea of what lay ahead for her.

When she came across four women battling a band of Ogres, she thought she might be of need. She had never thought to play the part of heroine, but there was something about the four lovelies that drew her eye. She pulled her bow and started down a path that would drag her away from everything she had known for over a century. Danai and her little band had no real need of the elf maid's help, and there was an instant disliking between the golden haired sorceress, Tylyra, and the Sylvisan Ranger, but Elsbeth was taken aboard nonetheless and she soon proved her usefulness. Her woodland lore and survival skills far surpassed the others and her talent with animals also came in handy. Though she lacked the venomous drive for vengeance or supremacy that the others had, she soon learned to appreciate the attentions of females as much as males. She became the Ranger of The Harpies.
