Description
The lily pond is sleeping now
A mottled mirror to the pale gray sky
Dead brown leaves blow across living grass
Which clings desperately in a futile effort
Tall barren trees stand silent witness
To the waiting...waiting for the silence
Of Winter's coffin blanket of white
Autumn colors now muted and songbirds scarce
I walk these brocaded hillsides
Cold wind whipping my skirt and hair
I loved you more than one heart should
Give me time please to learn to trust
I learned once to believe all you said
It was shattered this dull pewter morning
With a lie -- not even an important one --
But the shock was no less than an unexpected slap
I still love you more than one heart should
Only now, like the late Autumn season
It's tainted with the colour of sadness.

It is true that lies, even the most minute ones, can wound us deeply. The betrayal of trust can create both distance and loneliness as you have eloquently expressed here. Beautifully written.
