Description

2nd Terragen image, work in progress. Well, these surface maps are giving me fits. I completely lost the green on the island somehow, I can't get rid of the dark shadows on the sand, I don't have altitude constraints down right, and I wasn't real pleased with the waves, or the deep shadow on the island. I lost the first image I posted because I forgot to save the .ter file, so at least I did one thing right, :), and I can save this and see what improvements I can make to it. Now, I need a few nudges in the right direction from y'all, please, so I can turn this into something worth posting, without being embarrassed at posting such mediocre work. If you made it past the thumbnail, thanks so much! I appreciate it, and thanks for having a look! :)Maria

Good grief- you've got sun rays, great water reflections, cool sky and clouds, and some really great textures going here- wow! You're a quick study. Let me send you one of my first TG renders...gray rock, blank sky, 640x480...got it her on the hard drive somewhere...

Shoot, this is great, Maria! If you had sharpened in Postwork, I would have given this an Excellent! As is the atmo is top notch! I would make the sun size about half what you have here to reduce the tendency for a non-round shape. The beach is the right shape and has some cool crusty stuff on it, but probably clings too much to the very steepest part of the sand hill. Maybe reduce reflection on the water. Water is good, small ripples but the surf is a little out of control because the water is uniformly shallow perhaps. This sounds like a lot of critique, but you are really well on your way! Great work and give us more.

Thanks! :) I should admit here and now that the sky is an .atm file that I downloaded. I would have to start another image and click through the .atm files to find the name, to give proper credit. But the family is wondering if I will ever resurface, so that's it for today. Thanks for the suggestions. I will post a revised version when I have one. Maria

Very different from your first one! Love the sky, whatever a .atm file is. The sand in the foreground looks great and I really like that giant sand dune island with the big slope on it. Really nice work!

Don't be so hard on yourself Maria! I was impressed with it when I 1st saw it, and them only questioned it after reading how you felt! Sorry I can't help you since I know nothing of Terragen! Hugs!

Bravo Maria!!!

Bravo, Maria! Xlt composition! Surfaces are great! Maybe just try reducing the bumpiness a little bit and/or increase the background lighting to avoid too deep shadows.

I like the colours in the sky. The surf doesn't fit IMHO. Three waves is a bit too much. Sometimes less is more. ;-)

Well, I love the rays in the sky. That is beautiful. It kind of reminds me of a sand bar. It is so interesting seeing you work through these images. I know you are going to master this!

Wow! This is WIP is gonna be MAJOR when you get it all done, Maria! Not too shabby as it is and maybe you don't need the green you lost and this can be a desrt beach scene where the Sahara meets the Atlantic? I love the sky, especially - the sunbeams and light. And the way the clouds suggest a gathering storm offshore. Tee-Totally Terrific Terragen Terrainin'! lol
