Description

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This photo was taken today in the October sunshine ~ it is of Grey's Monument, which stands at the top of Grey Street and Grainger Street, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It was completed in 1838, to celebrate the 1832 Reform of Parliament. The 134 foot column is topped by a 13 foot statue of Earl Grey (1764 - 1845), who was Prime Minister from 1830 - 1834, and whose favourite tea blend was named after him, and became world famous. In 1941, the statue's head was knocked off by a bolt of lightning, and fell to the ground and was smashed to pieces. Six years later a new head was created! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks for looking, and for any comments, which I really appreciate. Gordon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow, this kind of shot is really not obvious to manage (because of the vertical lines distorsion). You got it quite well!! Thanks for this history course (and also for your daily kind words)... :-)
I know of Earl Grey tea! I love it! I don't get it too often because it is expensive. This is beautiful. I love the sunlit golden tones and especially the old buildings in the background. They are so so beautiful. Usually before things get that old here, they tear them down for a strip mall. I love it.
Excellent! And, I love the way you give us the story to go with it. You have a fantastic way of capturing images and they are so sharp and clear as to almost be unreal. Beautiful work, my friend...very arresting to the eye! Congratulations!!!
