Everywhere people with camera's find their way in this world to make their shots. I like the art of taking realistic pictures, because it provides a way to show how I experience this world. It is a way for other people to look through my eyes.Nature ... exists primarily for her face, her look, her appeals to the heart and the imaginationGeorge MacDonaldJan-Carel Vierbergen
Picture courtesy of Ruut WegmanBIOIt is all in the family: love for hiking in the nature. Since my childhood I'm used to walk with father, brothers, cousins, etc., and take pictures (Minolta X-700 with 28-70 mm and 100-300 mm zoom) of what I see. I grew up in Ede (The Netherlands), studied Electrical Engineering in Eindhoven and I am working now as Coordinator e-learning at the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede (http://www.che.nl) where I implement digital assessments for students and assist students in DTP and creating websites.
Since I know little about photographing as well as computer science it was not difficult to find ways for putting images on the web. The only thing to look for now is to find ways for showing the slides in a convenient way. I tried already something at http://www.che.nl/users/jcv (Dutch only, click at Dia's van de natuur in Nederland en de Alpen), but this platform provides good means to share my pictures with others.
I hope you enjoy this!

I'm sitting in Spain but spend my weekends here in Renderosity going up and down the Alps, through France and Switzerland and popping into Italy or over to Burma. Great photo. Are you really that close to the animal?

Impressive close-up Jan-Carel! Really, i can hardly get past looking at this guy's eyes which feel so warm and gentle. sigh. the lighting and shadows here are perfect. i'm at a loss to explain why. I leave you with a passage from a book I cherish..."The Souls of Animals" by Unitarian Universalitst minister, Gary Kowalski; "And as you look into those eyes, reflect that this being is a never-to-be-duplicated expression of the universe. Pay attention to what you see: the years of living present within those eyes, and the vitality that shines through their color and transparency. Contemplate their shape. Notice the angles and curves of individuality that make the face of the this creature a unique work of art, crafted by time and desire. And as you look into this being's eyes, pay attention also to what you cannot see, the inwardness, the selfhood, the 'I' that is as singular as its outward expression. What you look upon is a living spirit. Greet and respect it. Appreciate it for what it is. Ask yourself, what does it feel like to be this creature? What does the world look like through its eyes?...Sense a solitude you can never fully enter into or understand. Be aware that this is a being who has known hardships and hurts you can never imagine. This is a being who has known moments of wildness and innocence that you can never share..." Page 91. This is an extraordinary shot...very special.vote

Either that fella is fearless or you had one heck of a telephoto lense on him. Really great capture of nature in all its splendor.

This sends a 'frisson' down my spine, Jan-Carel. To be so close, in the ibex's own natural habitat, is amazing. I envy your skill, and, at the same time, thank God for his creation, John.
