Description

Well, that was a nice warming-up yesterday, wasn't it? The good weather and calm pace makes it easy to climb the mountains here. We have already seen the Hohgant and since we're a little bit better acclimatized we can ascend this mountain. We start at Habkern, the saw-mill at 1146 m (3760 ft) and from here we go up. I've got my backpack filled with Swiss chocolate and some other essentials. We walk clockwise over the ridge you see on your left hand. It's a safe track with nice views there, and you may judge whether these vista's are wonderful or not. The light grey parts you see is karst limestone (called Innerbergli meaning 'Inside the mountain'), and the cave-network I mentioned earlier is extending much further under these mountains. Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 70 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

i enjoy this for many reasons. the vista, of course, is incredible. I find it to be a quite soothing place to be. All alone. wonderful silence. sometimes we take quiet for granted. i am quiet interested in that elaborate cave system under the mountains, and i imagine it now. i have the feeling this place is untouched. unseen. unnoticed. Hohgant...I shall adopt these mountains as my home...perfect dwelling place. Gemmenalphorn...perfect for flying. i so much enjoy the Earth here. Your image illicits much emotion, and it is quite powerful...a world unto itself.

Looks like a Calvinist version of the outcrops of the Golan Heights I first saw in sunday school with biblical figures in robes with headdresses herding sheep. Thy rod and thy staff led away from the dungeon and the sword cane of the medieval church.

Such a view. I sometimes play about with landscape rendering programs, and thinks they are often un-natural. Then I look at your photos and feel that Nature is perhaps stranger, yet more real, than chaos theory. Thanks, for widening my appreciation of God's handiwork, John.
