Description

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the Buddhapadipa Temple in south London. It is a Buddhist monastery, known as the Thai Temple in London, inaugurated in 1982, and run by missionary monks. This little gem, with it's exquisite interior, is tucked away in approximately 4 acres of grounds in the exclusive suburb of Wimbledon. The reflections of the building, trees and shrubs in the ornamental lake and the December sunlight glinting on the mirrored ornamentation on the temple guarantee a mystical and magical experience. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks for looking and for any comments, which I really appreciate. ~Gordon~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Beautiful and distinctive piece of Thai temple architecture. It somehow seems more elongated vertically and compressed laterally than most of the other temples I am familiar with. Nice to see that the "chofah" is in place. Thanks for sharing this photo. :o)

I know this beautiful Temple and have visited it many times, although I am not a Buddhist. The walls inside have the most marvellous hand painted murals. Recently the Loy Krathong Festival was held at the lake. People light candles and place them with joss sticks, flowers and coins in tiny vessels which float on the moonlit lake. The atmosphere at this place, when they hold festivals with traditional dancing and displays, along with the delicious Thai food is quite exceptional.
