Description

Slowly we get a better vista on the glacier around the corner. Behind the glacier the mighty Lauteraarhorn (4042 m, 13261 ft) marks the beginning of this glacier, the Unteraargletscher. Notice the traces on the right side where the glacier in better times left its marks. The lake has a depth of maximal 100 meters and contains about 100 million m3, that is 0.1 cubic kilometer! Can you imagine how much energy you can produce with that!? E = m g h and with a height-difference of (1909 - 564) that is uh... 1.3E+15 Joules (about 371 GWh). How much that is? Hmmmm, enough to provide many towns in Switzerland with power. Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 50 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

what a view! looks like that bush is peeking around the corner to look too! traces of the glacier on the right...i'm having difficulty determining exactly where that is. would that be the top, upper right where those spiky-looking rocks are sticking up? i like those...remind me of dinosaur's back! can't believe the depth of the water here! pretty amazing! looks so shallow. are there caves here? agree with sharky-fascinating place...so much to see & absorb! You captured a VERY impressive vista for sure! vote!

This sight is absolutely magnificent!!! One of the most beautiful since you take us around the lake!!! Otherwise, you are certainly right, but I am really not the friend of mathematics... V

Wow Gasp factor 12!!! What a lot of power too, certainly enough to keep our Tedz batteries charged! What a stunning sawtooth ridge that is. Do you ever venture up this high I wonder? If this is the view from down here, imagine what you would see from the top. Definetely worth a big Vote.

Jan-Carel, this is a vista deserving of stillness, deep conscious breaths, time spent listening and watching, appreciating the slow, measured movement of the mountains, and the scouring force of the glacier. It inspires in one, both Awe and Wonder, and convinces one of the wise plans of our Creator. This is, to me at least, so much more satisfying than the vaunted 'Shock and Awe' of man made, death-dealing technology.

My God! I feel cold and alone. But not in danger. I feel drawn to the snow. Wasn't I farther from it yesterday? Yes - I was!
