Description

::: Part 34 of a series of Warbird Photos ::: Taken at the Planes of Fame Museum - Chino Airport, California on Wednesday, December 1st, 2004. As I was leaving the Planes of Fame Museum two weeks ago after a flight to the Grand Canyon Facilties and back, I noticed this really cool shot of the museum's Republic RF-84K Thunderflash with the sun setting behind it. The area out front had just been watered down while washing a aircraft, so there was a little pool of water that reflected the Thunderflash. I quickly went and grabbed my camera and snapped a few photos before the sun dissappeared behind the mountains. The RF-84K Thunderflash is a jet aircraft used by the air force and was the first jet to be a photo recon plane with many different mixed types of cameras in the nose. Max speed of 629 mph and it had four .50-cal. machine guns mounted in the wings. Camera is a Canon Rebel EOS 300D DSLR (6mp) with a Canon 18-55mm lens. Image was reduced in size.

When I first saw it, in the thumb, I saw a Navy F-9 Cougar. Then in full size the drooping tails like an F-4 and the bifurcated wing root inlets through me. I looked again for the nose inlet of a Thunderstreak or Thunderjet. Your description was a relief as well as the fact it was a photo graph. A grim reminder of the need for better ground observer corps flash ID cards.
