Description

Strange patterns have formed here in the mud. To be honest, I don't have the slightest idea how they have evolved. From left to right (in front) it's about 1.5 meter (5 ft). Behind this mud the water flows a little faster. Perhaps when the weather was a bit warmer (it's not cold now, by the way) the melting rate of the glacier supplied more water. Slow and fast water could have come together here and formed those remarkable shapes. Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 100 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

Very Interesting. They look almost like people left their tracks walking on the mud. Such an amazing pattern. Excellent Shot. Aloha

A cracking mystery, Jan-Carel. A gift of Nature, unique and unrepeatable indeed. But enough of reality for a minute or two. Let us be whimsical... Perhaps there is a 'monster' ( a mud lizard ) hiding away in this alpine mud wallow. On second thought, I have to ask "Is that dwarven runes, or Irish Ogham script carved ( or impressed ) into the foreground edge of the mud, next to the slower moving melt water?" Keep 'snapping' Jan-Carel, you have got the old brain cells moving again. Thanks, John.

Not to leave fantasy land...but it looks to me very similiar to erosion patterns that you might see on a much grander scale at say for instance the Grand Canyon. Flat messa tops and valleys were the hill are slowly eroding away. But to see in in a medium like mud is amazing to me...thanks for sharing Jan-Carel!!

A beautiful bright pattern. Will it be a combination of movements of the water finding its way in a very soft surface, flowing and at the same time being absorbed.
