This is the second image in my Bruges series, it shows the temporary ice rink erected behind the wooden vending cabins, seen in my last upload "Festive Bruges"

The magnificent neo-gothic building bathed in December sunlight is the Provincial Government Palace. Even the ornate windows added a seasonal glow to the splendid architecture, which provided a grand backdrop for the skating displays. The young couple had just circled the rink, then after a lingering embrace, exchanged a romantic kiss!

Ohhh, this has brought back such wonderful memories for me. My first date with the love of my life was ice skating. I lived in the north of our states, and they flooded parks and parking lots in the winter for skating. I never knew there was such thing as an indoor rink. Fires in barrels to warm up, (Peppermint Schnapps under the car seat for the same reason!) I love this. Such a beautiful shot.

The light adds to the great atmosphere here and I like the way the shadows fall on the scored surface. A lovely subject with gorgeous colours! Perhaps the young man was blushing!
