Description

The Dentist Created: July 2004 * Created and rendered in POSER 4.03 * Postworked in Photoshop (background added, image grain added) * background photo by ZOT (heavily colour shifted in PS) * Base character is DAZ's "Grim" (face by ZOT for this image) * Morphing Glasses by DAZ (I made the arms and hinges invisible) * Millennium Teeth by DAZ * Eyes used: - Blackeyes 2.0 http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=18033 and - Actual Eyes 2 for Poser 5 & 4 (requires Blackeyes) http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=24423 Freebies credits: ----------------- * S&C Horror Lights from: RDNA http://www.runtimedna.com/ --POSER-- (further tweaked by ZOT for this image) * disposable syringe by Zippo http://mugi.site.ne.jp/lab108/ --POSER READY PROP-- (CHR) * derekki (used here like a dentists pick) by Zippo http://mugi.site.ne.jp/lab108/ --POSER READY PROP-- ------------------------------------ Do you have childhood memories of your dentist being like this? :-) I put some effort into getting the lighting just as I wanted it for this image. The syringe needle has just a lick of light to highlight it's tip (and so make it more menacing), and I lit the derekki model ('dentist pick') to bring it out of the shadows and outline it. - I also used two spotlights to shine into the eyes/glasses lens to highlight them. A wide angle lens was used because it helps to distort the image and bring it into the viewers face so to speak. ;-) The main image was rendered in POSER, then in Photoshop I composited in the background (which I find gives me more control that way). - Some 'film grain' was added to the overall image to give it a much less glossy rendered look but the Grim default texture is quite matte in any case. The characters arms in this image are actually twisted and embedded into the bodyspace in a most unnatural way so I could get the posing into camera angles I wanted. - But as I always say, if you can fake it and get away with it,...who cares! ;-) I should like to point out that I think making 'dark' or foreboding pics isn't really my forte (as if I had any forte at all), but I enjoy creating them from time to time. - I make images for my own enjoyment and share them with others. - I do whatever I feel like doing and so aren't constrained by what others expect of me. - And isn't that what it's all about? :-) ------------------------------------ Addendum (added 24th of December 2004): A couple of centuries ago (or so it seems now), when as a kid I was taken to see a dentist it was to a huge dedicated dental clinic where I'll always remember my name being prefaced with 'master' by the staff whenever they called or directed me to areas. As you waited there in the very open-plan type of waiting room areas near a closed door that lead into a mysterious room, you would quite often hear VERY LOUD shrieks, crying, and long screams from behind these doors. - Certainly NOT the kind of thing a young kid wants to hear as he's in the waiting chairs! I'll spare you the details of my 'adventures' at the dentists but whirring drills mean nothing to me.....it's those damn big pliers they use for wrenching out teeth that really gave me the willies! >:-O Z.
