Description

I felt that "Cloister" was too simplistic and looked too much like a cartoon, so I re-visited the image and added some architectural detail. The outer rim of the arches have stone work (which caused heavy object overload-- but the trick with a symetrical lattice didn't look good) and the inner arches have ribbing. I used an imported picture texture for the marble on the columns, and the tree is actually a 2-D plane with a picture on it. Most lighting was controlled with natural sunlight, but the hanging lamp lights used the "ranged falloff". The marble floor is a standard Bryce 5 texture and the seams were added in Photoshop. The camera is set at 95 focal length which does introduce some distortion.

Always a tricky thing to light. I like your modelling and the marble is a nice. I like the holes in the wall. Nice touch.

OOh, very nice! I think if you take a Photo of a cloudy sky, and replace Bryce's procedural sky with it, it would look much better. It looks awesome!

Very impressive modeling. The groin vaults and the brick work outside the arches benefit from the extra effort. The textures are where this image could be improved. Go to www.mayang.com for free (both in price and copyright) images. When using photographs as textures, you may want to modify them first. Also, setting them to "word cubic" or "object cubic" often yields desirable results. ------ Again, very, very excellent modeling.
