Description

Observatories on Mauna Kea: These are just some of the observatories on Mauna Kea. From Top left is the Subaru Telescope at approx 13,685 ft elevation level. The next 2 domes on the right are the W.M Keck Observatory, Keck 1 and Keck 2. Lower left is the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope and the little one on the lower right is Caltech Submillimeter Observatory. Basically, this is Tedz country. Aloha and thank you for viewing

Kewl! (literally!) I was up there a couple of years ago - a university friend of mine, now a professor, was doing an observing run at CFHT with his grad student at the same time I was vacationing on the Big Island. He took me up to the summit as well, and we toured the old CFHT, the new Gemini, and the Keck (another friend was managing a project there) scopes as well... wonderful place! Breath-taking - (umm, also literally!)
