Description

- Scotland - The upper and older graveyard around the Kilmartin church was the most impressive cemetery I've ever seen. Ivy and other plants grow up around the grave stones or monuments which were covered by lichens and moss. The atmosphere was filled with history and feelings, no feelings of death but of life of the past. No path leading through the graves and you often have to walk on them with a strange feeling, as if there were voices in the air. Every of my step was accompanied by the thought of "sorry" and "excuse me". Thanks a lot for your interest and all kind comments! ;o)

Rita this is a beautiful peaceful image. Yet I too (when I am in places like this) say "excuse me, pardon me" and even "I'm sorry". I at least don't feel so alone in doing this. Lovely image here as usual and very respectful.

What a wonderful array of lichen-covered stones; can you imagine each of them absorbing the life story of their occupants, what tales they could tell. Beautiful photograph.

Neat graveyard and, also, I like the cool frame you put around this pic - cool design and depth to it. Saw your post...tomorrow (funny how you can warp time backwards here at Rendo - lol) sad, I never knew Chuck but was amazed by his gallery after i looked - he was pretty good!

Wonderful place :) .. I love going on old and new cemetaries on my travels to other countries. You learn a lot about their history and their customs and culture. And on cemetaries there are peace --- peace so you can breathe in the past and the present - and feel what has been .. This picture reminds me so much of some of my own experiences so I kind of know how you felt when you were there. :)) V

Incredible photo, for a very emotional atmosphere. I understand that you feal walking in this cemetery. It's often very strange sensations. In the same time, sad, and full of live, because all the personns who are died, are always so present in the heart of other personns. That give energy, and peace too. A marvelous shot Rita, with so much sensibility and respect.
