Description

This species of iris is named after the American tribe 'Quapaw'. The colouration of this flower has a beautiful range of earthy copper tones, reminiscent to the soil found in 'Four Corners' of America, an area which film director John Ford made Americans aware of through his films like, "She WoreYellow Ribbons" (1949) and "My Darling Clemintine" (1946). Also numerous Plein Air painters like Edgar Paynes used the landscape and its people as their inspiration. It is one of the most mystical places in Northern America. Thank you for stopping by. Vielen dank das Sie vorbei gekommen sind. Technical Information: CAMERA: Canon with 50mm Macro, exposure range f11-16 on tripod FILM: Fuji-Sensia 100 ASA, processed normal LIGHT: Norman 1250 single light with a mini softbox SEPARATION: Nikon LS-2000 scanner, full frame PHOTOSHOP NOTES: This beautiful rose coloured iris was converted to a B/W and then adjusted to represent a toned print, using my own Duo-tone settings (R150/G115/B100) within Photoshop.

First, I love the fact that you are still using film. :) Very informative information, you have a natural way with flowers. I also like the tight crop and color toning. Accomplished beautifully.

I love the POV and the DOF of this shot :)) but I have aquestion : you describe this kind of Iris as having a very beautiful colour : so, why did you choose to post it in B&W ?? NAyway, it's a fantastic flower shot :)) V

To answer your question Chantal, I elected to convert this image to a duo-tone because colours could not display the beauty of the light upon the petals, it would also have been a distraction. Even as a B&W image there was still too much drama in the tones, that is why I a second tone was added. Now the eye focus on the light as it graces the flower and we are focusing on the petals shapes and therefore not the colour of the flower.

Delicate and dreamy. Brilliant recolouring my friend! Excellent sharp macro, and a creative crop. The history behind the name of this flower is very interesting also, perfectly done =)
