Description

Greetings One cannot improve much on what nature has created, but this evenings Parrot Tulip required a little Photoshop assistance. The problem I was faced with this week was deciding which version of this flower I would feature on Renderosity. On one transparency I had a beautiful stem and petal opening, on the other, the back side of the tulip which was more impressive and displayed better features of its petals. Photoshop to the rescue. For further details on Photoshop, see notes under 'Technical Information'. I consider myself from the old school in which everything you want to achieve needs to be on film with little digital post work. When photographing flowers in the studio, all one can do, is find the maximum 'point of view' that best displays the flower and then enhance its features through lighting. Ansel Adams expressed it best, as I try to paraphrase, "your negative is the score and your print the symphony". One more images of a flower to be posted on St. Valentine before we start a new series a week from today. Thank you for stopping by. Vielen dank das Sie vorbei gekommen sind. Grazie Technical Information: CAMERA: Canon with 50mm Macro, exposure range f11-16 on tripod FILM: Fuji-Sensia 100 ASA, processed normal LIGHT: Norman 1250 single light with a mini softbox with fill card SEPARATION: Nikon LS-2000 scanner, full frame PHOTOSHOP NOTES: I removed the background on both transparencies and then on one cut out the flower. The other image with the stem and petal, the flower was removed, leaving the stem and petal in its original position. Then I pasted the backside of the flower into this file. I duplicated the final layer for a better saturation of colours with the top layer being set to 'multiple' at 50%. A new background of drab-olive green-chocolate brown was added.

sighs You are very right, this stunning flower needs little help from photoshop, although I do love the dark background because it intensifies the rich orange/red/yellow. Simple, and very eyecatching. Thankyou also for including the tecnical information in your posts, it's always interesting to read! Excellent photo =)

it knows its elegance and beauty in the way it gracefully poses... each petal seems to be like small hands caressing and slighly covering its face to hide a shy blush... superb camera work.. sublime voteee

would never know... as long as you're not doing some sort of reporting/factual shot... when it comes to art photography, the digital darkroom is more then acceptable... as it's the final result that matters... & this is quite exquisite :]

A fantastic coloured tullip. This also is very much like a painting of a Dutch 17th Century master.
