I must say that this is amazing. I like it very much. The kind of photography that "pushes" us into the scene (real scene). I wonder how did you achieve the "miracle" of not bluring people with an 6 sec. exposure (?). P.S. - please correct the Obrigade (wrong spelling) for Obrigado (correct spelling) :)). VOTE !!!!!!!

I didnt have to even read your "caption" to see the similarity to "Nighthawks." Another excellent capture from your series!
diomedes66
Wonderful capture as are the others in your series - excellently done and the simularity to the painting is excellent. Tne quality of the image reminds me of a famous N.Y. news photographer 'Weegee.' Bravo, very well done! V

Thank you Carlos for the language correction. As for the people holding still, there were about 9-10 exposures and this one was the best of them all. The woman was talking with a customer as Jimmey the cook was busy. Otherwise pure luck, or as I like to put it, the Muse laid her hand upon my shoulder that night.

one of my fave paintings by Hopper... another slice of the great American cafe... complete with neon light... & bullet hole? o.O! really like the darkness drawing one through the window... cheesebuger, fries & a coke :] makes me think the color would've been good too with the neon but nostalgic in b&w

I love the dark tones here, brilliant exposure! The scene is well framed through this window, complete with shattered glass and possible bullet hole. Its amazing how many things you can learn from looking properly (as you said in your last post). Excellent night photography. V =)

Yes ,this one is like you said about edward hopper! In my opinion, black frame, all around the scene is toomuch important!Same loneliness in the people!!
Chaos911
wow, super excellent work, super shot!!!! cool b&w!!! :)

I admire how natural this is. Not knowing thier images were being taken, there is no set up poses.Open sign and what I believe is a broken window add to the nostalgic feel to this.I'll have mine without mayonaise.

This image really evokes a feeling of Edward Hopper. I think the black edge which nearly envelopes the whole picture serves to isolate the people so that they appear to be cocooned in their own little world. This somehow enhances the feeling that it is very late at night. A really top notch image Emont as ever.

Open under protest!....looks like she's tired & ready to go home.

Great work as usual my friend. i liked this photo the first time I saw it ;-) V

Hmm, yes it sort of reminds me of E.H.'s work that you mentioned. He was such an amazing artist. As for this picture you've captured above, I do love the black and white and the capturing of people in their natural state...unaware. I love old diners. :) However, for me personally and this is always objective. :) I'm not crazy about all the black void, especially at the bottom and the gentleman/cook seems to be a bit underexposed and almost lost...my eye keeps being drawn to the sign more than the girl underneath it. But anyway....you are the maker of the capture so if it pleases you, then let it be pleasing. :) Wonderful efforts here. Have a great day Egmont. :)

For me this photo is a "Retro" it brings me back, immediately to the late 50ties, early 60ties. This photo is double powerful due to the B&W. But you also can see that the photographer is a person with a good eye for composition and for details as well. Yes "Retro" because the admosphere of the 50ties has been captured in 2005, with the todays toys & tools we have. Digital Photography and Photo Shop as dark room. Excellent Egmont Hope you will have a nice weekend!!

An emotional response to "OPEN" is a feeling of sadness and being lost. You can feel the loneliness and despair in the young womans life, I'm sure she does not want to be there. Looks like someone has thrown a rock at the window for the crack to form as such. The strong emphasis of black throughout the image in my opinion only adds to the depths of despair and power to the story. Standing "O" although Sammy and Anthony win out. Enjoy your day and all the little treasures you seek within it. Judith

To me the this girl is trying to TALK to this guy...she looks like she really needs to tell him something (Be OPEN) Yet he has his back turned and doesn't seem to WANT to discuss anyting at the moment. Maybe he's just TOO busy cooking on the grill. Maybe they are more than just co-workers and are having an arguement??? Or maybe just maybe she's checkin on an order for a customer....(my mind certain wonders!) Another thought provoking image! One thing that I do find distracting is that object blocking our view of the girl. It's like we are missing a bit of the story (IMO)

I find Edward Hoopers work very inspirational, and have been toying whit trying it photographically, this is excellently done.

When I saw the thumb I immeadiate thought of Hooper's painting so I would say you did your job well. :) There is definately a byplay between the man and woman (cook and waitress) that sparks the imagination. Lovely presentation, the black framing of the diner's building was a good decision!
Mikan
wow - the contrast is my favorite "thing" that I like in your photos (I guess an EV -0.3 would be almost the same) I like the little play of the "actors" - a real nightlife collection photo...My hat is off!
