Description

Kilauea Iki main vent as seen erupted from Nov 14 and ended Dec 20 of the year 1959. Its Fountains reached great heights of 1,900 ft. Vast amounts of lava would pour into this crater causing a large lava lake of 414 ft deep, It then backflows down the main vent to lower the lakes lever again. This eruption was the most spectacular eruption that I've seen. You could get a close up view such as where I'm standing taking this picture. You could hear the roar of a freight train and you certainly could feel the heat. It lit up the skys like a golden yellow/red sunset. Far in the background is Halemau'umau'u crater. Aloha and thank you for viewing.

I saw this erupting from a distance when I was there. I wasn't brave enough (with family) to venture this close, my hat is off to you. Gorgeous and powerful image!
