Description

- Scotland, Ben Cruachan - The next day I in vain waited for better weather. There only were few days before my vacation would come to an end and I was forced to hike in heavy rain. Some days ago I tried to find the path up to the place you see here but it ended in a lost area covered by almost manhigh wet fern and I was wet to the skin. I was very mad about that inability. This day I found the path up to the Cruachan Power Station hidden deep within the mountain of Ben Cruachan on the shores of Loch Awe. On the way up I had a wonderful view over the area but when I reached the dam there was nothing else to see because I stood before a wall of deep clouds and fog! ;o( But the mighty silence and roughness around appears unreally. Thanks a lot for your visit and all comments! Wish you a funny day! ;o)

Heyy, what a strange place! The desertic landscapes + the fog + the terrific concrete thing makes a surrealist atmosphere. Bravo!

This is a wonderfully atmospheric photograph; your pov perfectly captures the slope of the dam which seems to harmonise with the contours of the terrain. A great mood piece depicting a slumbering power.

This is how so many of my Scottish trips have looked, misty and damp! Once again you have really managed to capture the atmosphere of the place, excellent.

Looks a bit like a sloping viaduct :) The colours have a wonderful richness well saturated just like the ground I expect looking at the low cloud !! Beautiful scene :)

There is an unreality to this image that is quite fascinating. The lush surroundings and surreal atmosphere are a perfect accompanyment to the dam. It is as if a ancient giant robot has been unearthed, or is slowly rising from the ground. Luv it!!!

A trip to Scotland wouldn't be the same without the weather as it usually is - dull! Much patience required... I love this series of images, all the autumnal colours are breathtaking. Brings back many memories for me - thank you!

Great image, Rita. My neighbour worked on such dams, and hydro-electric stations in the 1950s. However, irreverent as usual, I must say that the dam looks like a railway bridge or viaduct, which got too tired and started to lean over. Regards, John.

I remember one evening (a few years ago) coming down off Ben Cruachan and getting to the Dam where we had a short break, the light was fading. My friend found a switch and thought "I know, I'll turn it" ....It lit up the whole dam! dozens of big spotlights came on....our break was a short one as we ran off quick!

So unusual to see a power station out in the middle of no where...but it fits the landscape well and is not obtrusive as power stations go. Beautiful colors in this landscape...well captured!
