Description

Without telescope it's not easy to zoom in on celestial objects. On this clear night I shot the Pleiades or perhaps better known as the Seven Sisters with my 300 mm telelens. The result was not bad but you guys beat me with digital equipment. Digital zoom would be great. So I did a little postwork this time.... This is the result of a 4 seconds exposure with 300 mm on ISO 100 (!) scanned at 3200 dpi and cropped, so effectively it results in an equivalent of 1270 mm! That is what I call 'zoom'! Further postwork was to beat the levels to the edges and add names to the stars. Here you are! To boldly zoom where I've never zoomed before! The Infinite Improbability Drive is at work again! :) OK, I'm beaten by people using the real good telescopes as shown on Steven Gibson's site but it feels great to recognize those stars! We're talking here about a part of the sky that only measures about 1.5 degrees (from left to right). Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 300 mm, cropped and 4.2 times magnified, levels pushed to the limits and names added), shots all made (like Justistal) in Switzerland Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

I just like that they are correctly positioned. It feels right in my head. The arcseconds tick off without boredom. The lightyears melt away.

This is really quite magnificent; I have often (like every night) stood outside and marveled at the stars; but you can capture an instant of their lives - Bravo, so very well done!

smart solution! btw: If you use digital zoom you could also enlarge it later with Photoshop... it's the same effect..

nicokorn is right...Photoshop does what a digital zoom would do, maybe even better. Great capture of the magnificent 7...I love all your sci-fi quote...I take if you are a sci-fi buff as well? Fascinating... ;^]
