Description

Moving on from the boiler (of yesterday), in this Welsh slate mine 'behind' the various chambers where the slate was removed from are tramway tunnels. These allowed men and materials to be moved around the mine without interference from those areas that were being worked - it's also safer!
As the water was low (you can just see the tide mark half-way up the tunnel sides), I took the opportunity to get a view along the level, to try and bring out the colour and texture of the rock.
[Nikon Coolpix 5400, 30second exposure, F8. Multiple flashes: 3 made from behind the camera to bring out the shape of the tunnel, then 'jogged' down the passage to fire the flash once about half-way down (I cringed into the right-hand wall), then twice more just round the corner, looking back towards the camera to bring out the far wall - it took a few attempts to get this image, but at least it keeps you fit!!)]

A wonderful capture--the lighting is very well done here. Does this passage lead us to Gollum? "My precious...."

Excellent idea with the flash. Looks like you can still see the drill holes in the rock face.

Creepy hole. I don't want to go in it. I don't like small places. Excellent shot and lighting!

In reply to escafeld - yes if you look on the left-hand side you can see the remains of the 'shot-holes' where the miners drilled and blasted the rock (there is 3 of them about a third of the way up, in the picture they look just like short 'dashes' on the wall !
