Description

It's strange to look down on this village of Axalp with the lake almost 1000 meters (3000 ft) under it. The difference with the almost invisible houses on the other side of the lake puts it all in perspective. It's great to discern the roads on the other side of the lake; in summer they're hidden behind the trees that bear no leaves at this moment. The color of the water in lake Brienz is very special. In winter it's quite dark blue, in summer it's turquoise (like some Canadian lakes), almost unreal. And now, let's go down on that big family-sled! Wheeeeeee! You are working hard at making this a friendly local place. I suppose what I miss is seeing it built. Where I grew up the holes for basements and framing continued through my high school years one house or so per year. Because some of these alpine buildings are so tall they seem built by a race of ancient giants. Just seeing craftsmen working on restoration of antiquities is very moving.

Gosh! I can't get over the color of the water! It makes me wonder about the PH Levels. Is that a road along the front side of the mountain I see? (the horizontal mark across the face)

The blue seems a bit too strong to me, even for Swiss lakes that are really very blue :)
