Description
On our hiking tours uncle Jan and I have crossed many places on the Veluwe, the largest connected forest in the Netherlands with fields of heather and juniper berry (and beeches, birches (like here), oaks, etc.). Especially the heather can joyfully color large areas with their light purple colorings in August (a local festivity here) but that has to wait some months.
Now and then we can see flocks of sheep that are tending here. They improve the quality of the heather by eating the grasses that grow in between.
Walking with people like uncle Jan makes the time fly past, we have good conversations, we enjoy what we see and when it's lunchtime a smile appears on his face, while he takes his egg-cups and I pour some whisky in them. On those moments we realize how many things we got to enjoy!

To have someone who enjoys the hikes as much as you do is such a bonus...no draggin them along trying to make small talk...just enjoying each others company as nature unfolds her beauty to you on every turn...then there's lunch! Nothing goes down easier after a long hike like a great lunch...A beauty of and image...can't wait for the rest! Aloha!

Of course I know the Veluwe too, being Dutch. I like this area too.. So many things to discover. This image is pure propaganda for the Veluwe.

i would love to hike here, Jan-Carel! and yep, when you're with good company and having wonderful discussions, the time just flies by! this is a beautiful place!!! are there different kinds of heather? it doesn't look like the heather i'm used to seeing. and what is an egg-cup? dunno how he can drink whiskey when he's hiking though! oh man, i need TONS of water! whisky would just make me thirsty!!!! :) a beautiful photo, Jan-Carel and i can't wait to see more!
