Description

Canon EOS 10D, Canon 28-135IS lens at 56mm ISO 400, 1/125 sec at f22, handheld with flash I got up early on Sunday and took the subway to the National Mall, then walked over to the tidal basin to get this look at the Jefferson Memorial. This is one of the compositions I had envisioned before making the trip to Washington. The photo was taken at 8:22am in the soft morning light, and there must have been over 1,000 people there trying to get photos. The aperture setting of f22 was done to get enough depth of field for the cherry blossoms to be in focus, as well as the memorial. I pointed the flash up into the cherry tree to light up the beautiful pink blossoms. The cherry blossoms are only in bloom for about a week, and I think I was there at the peak time. For my friends abroad who are viewing this, it is a memorial to Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States, and the author of our Declaration of Independence.

I have always wanted to visit D.C. in the spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Been there just once, and got to visit the Jefferson Memorial and of course the Lincoln Memorial, too; among other things .. great place to visit. I want to go back!!
