Description

Gradually getting the new IBL lighting right. This is another play on the theme of the previous couple of renders. 1xIBL light, at 50% intensity, with AO at 0.5 intensity. 4xSpecular lights (derived from HDRShop from the IBL image), but with 50% diffuse (instead of 0%), and shadows on. The trick is, although the position of the IBL light doesn't effect the positioning of the IBL texturemap on the scene, it hughly effects the AO - so positioning of the IBL light is key. There is another trick in this scene - which hasn't really shown up that well. There are 2 skydomes - the outer one has the IBL image plugged into the ambient. The inner one is black, but invisible to R/Trace. So the ray-traced reflects on her teeth and eyewhites pick up the image on the drome, but it doesn't effect the scene lighting. Next render I'll show the effect a little better. I think all in all the spec on her skin needs to be a little stronger, there is lots of AO artifacts in her eyes - so more AO samples are needed, and the AO needs to be tuned a little better for her teeth. Texturing is the standard Winter Queen maps, with the P6 Character Realism Kit applied.

nods I've been working with the IBL's a bit more as well and noticed that placement was becoming more and more an issue to get things looking the way I wanted them. Im fighting now with getting the gather node to create proper bounce on adjacent reflective materials. If you happen to figure that one out, I'll give you a cookie :P

Looks great, man. The teeth and skin are awesome. I wasn't aware about IBL light position and AO, although I did have my suspicions, but never tested it fully. Good work!

Fantastic skin and teeth! And very interesting information, but some critics: The eyes are looking a bit flat and with "slower" render settings (MinShading to 0.0 and MinBias to ca. 0.3) the hair and the shadows will be much better Excellent work!

Impressive. Scaling is still an issue with RayT, I see. Hope it's blurrable as they have claimed. Way late on this...
