Born in Hilo, Hawaii and class of '66, I became very active in Barbells, Judo and love striking the heavy/speed bag. I've learned to Rollerblade and bike ride which is a very health sport. But time doesn't stop for anyone including for me. So my good friend Dave aka punaguy got me started in taking pictures. I'm having fun taking pictures especially hiking the mountains. I'm enjoying seeing the world thru your post on Renderosity. Mahalo and Aloha....Errol

Strange...for a minute I thought I was looking at a little rock pool by the shore, then I find out theres a road running through it???? Jeez you must be high up. I hope your toenails don't take too much beating on the way down!

Akemi.... I arrived at the base of the mountain a little late in the morning (6:00 am) because it was not really a planned hike up the mountain. It takes about a half hour ride up hill to the visitors center. After some time at the visitor to acclimate, I decided on the spur of the moment to hike on that trail. Started my hike approx 7:24 am as indicated by my camera shots. It would have been best to have started my hike approx 5 am if I had planned the hike, lol. The reason for an early hike is that its cooler in the morning and gets heated in the afternoon even if the air is cool. The sun and elements will dehydrate you. At that point where I ran "Out of Water", it was 11:00 am. The hike above the horizon goes much further up. It would probably be a days hike if I went all the way up to the observatories and onto the shrine 13,796 ft. Returning downhill was much faster as my clock said 12:40 pm. Mauna Kea is open every day except when there is dangerous conditions such as snow, ice or windy conditions. You can also get to the top of Mauna Kea by driving. Maybe on your next trip to Hawaii? Aloha

Great to see that vegetation here! Going up makes it more difficult to shoot, indeed, that's why I always take a tripod with me! :) Excellent work, Errol!

Sorry....There is no beach visible in this image. What seems to look like water is actually an old lava flow from Mauna Loa.
