Description

Sun-day! A perfect moment to do something with the neverlasting rays of the sun. Experimenting with the many ways the light comes to us I thought, let's try something with my telelens combined with my binoculars. Well, the result is clear, a blurry giant sun! Guess what was the most difficult to get right!? It was ... positioning. The rotation of the earth causes the sun to rise and to set every day and a circle round means 360 degrees in 24 hours, that is 15 degrees per hour and one quarter of a degree every minute. Are you there still? LOL! Now imagine the size of the sun on this distance being half a degree it means that every two minutes the sun travels a distance as big as its own diameter, so if I direct my equipment to the sun, and it takes perhaps a minute (exact pointing, focusing, etc.) the sun has moved half its diameter! With this magnification the sun really moves fast! That's why telescopes (the more expensive ones) are equipped with a motor drive to follow stars and constellations that would fly across the image within a few minutes! The image has become very blurred since the quality of the telelens is appropriate for 300 mm, not for 7 times 300 mm and the binoculars are for magnifying 7 times, not for magnifying once again through a telelens. But the experiment was great! The sun is not spotless (unlike the movie ...), you can vaguely discern some sunspots (left above the center). Minolta X-700 (Agfa CT 100, 300 mm and binoculars)

Excellent background. I certainly didn't know all of that. And, had you not told us about the blur we probably would have thought you was going for something artistic! LOL! Keep trying..you'll get it! ;0)

Great image with beautiful coloring! Anyway, I thought in the movie it was the mind that was spotless, not the sun :)
