Description

After the series of Lessons learned and Timing I want to conclude this triptych with the more artistic essence of photography, composition. There are those who are far more artistic than I ever will be, so I'll try to make a humble start with composition and leave it to the more gifted photographers to show and share their artistic insights. Climbing the Hohes Brett (2338 m, 7671 ft) we arrived eventually on the top from where we could look upon the Jenner and the Königsee behind it. We were rather close to the ceiling of clouds and I thought this to be a nice illustration of the first aspect I want to mention, the rule of thirds. You can divide the image in three by three cells. In this case it's simply divided in three rows. Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments Minolta X-700 (Agfa CT 100, 35 mm and slightly cropped)

Could also be called the rule of nine. The Rule of Thirds is put to use by dividing the rectangular shape of your scene into nine smaller rectangles. Placing your subject anywhere the 4 pts. cross creates interest in the image...Thanks for this refresher and ideal example of the lesson! Aloha~

Very beautiful and a well balance picture. Not only does the view below tell you that you are up high, but the ceiling of clouds right above you says you're up there. I am just amazed of your incredible hikes and journey reaching these most beautiful scenic views. Excellent....Aloha

I don't agree, more than rows, you've got also (almost) the columns! Look at the top in the foreground on the right side. And the one in the sun light on the left side. Proportions mustn't be followed EXACTLY but in this case, we are very close to the perfect grid. Cool!

A great contrast of the rocky slope at your feet, then the greener hills, then the majestic snowy peaks! With the lake and the stormy skies, it's a perfect springtime capture of the Alps :)

I think you have created a rule of "interest" with this shot...the rocky foreground, the darker middle mountain range, the distant mountain range, and finally the clouds add another layer of interest! Bravo...keeping in favs! []/;^)
