Process
My Poetry and Art explore the infinite landscape of the dream worlds that connect us all. The worlds that enhance and expand our cultural, mythological and psychological resources. These works explore how we shape and colour these ancient symbols with our personalities and imagination both visually and verbally. These friends and teachers appear throughout the history of world cultures in their myriad guises. How often have you read about an ancient mythological character, only to recognise a familiar friend from your dreams and imaginings?
Poetry
I see poetry as a lightning rod, drawing the energies of myths and intuitions to capture them in that most mundane but mystical of vessels – language. Why is poetry such a unique form of writing? It transcends linear narrative, enhances the musicality of language and reveals the visual beauty of the written word. Poetry lifts us to the heights of abstract thought and, guide us down into the roots of raw emotion. We become swept up in the poem’s rhythm and movements.
A poem creates a suspension of logic, by using the very tool that shapes logic – words.
Visual Art
My visual work is a reaction to my poems. After writing a poem, I break down the many themes and concepts into one simple, visual idea, then I build this idea back up by employing colours, light, textures, and symbols. The artwork offers an alternative interpretation of the poem. My visual art and my poetry are journeys to the same destination by very different roads.
