$197.57....hmmmm, I was assuming she comes with DAZ's new program.....wouldn't it save alot of money to wait and buy the program?

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 2:46 AM

Is that allowing for the $10 you save if you buy the Head Morphs, the Body Morphs, and the Base Figure all at the exact same time?

Dizzie ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 3:02 AM

If you take off the $10 and if you just get the base upgrade it still is $155.61....but if she comes with DAZ Studio, then I'd rather put the $150 towards the program....:>0

PheonixRising ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 3:03 AM

She is not coming with the program. That amount is too high. Sh'es not that much even with hair and makeup maps. Someone has been spinning you a yarn.

i bought base v3, face morphs, body morphs, two texture packs, one face pack, and it costs me $57,28. so if you by platinum membership, you'd still be better off. can't beat that deal...

Dizzie ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 3:16 AM

Thanks Pheonix....I'll go ahead and buy her!

Philywebrider ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 3:22 AM

Base, face morph, bodymorph, texture, highlight/conture, fashion model face, should run me about $77.01. Good deal! (I'm in the platlnium club).

TheWingedOne ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 3:33 AM

Have to agree with Philywebrider...great deal! Platinum Club rocks!!! Cheers, Phil

List price-intro discount 25%-$10.00-30% is a nice savings. :o)

Word of Warning... I thought i'd buy vicki 3 sense i had a tiny bit of cash. So, I bought the vicki 3 base and high texture contour pack. Turns out it was a waste of my money. Vicki 3 Base pack comes with Jack for morphs, You can not copy any of the Victoria 2 Morphs over to the Vicki 3 Model because she is spliced up differently. Personally i find myself discusted, I was figuring it would at least come with some 'Base Morphs' like the first victoria when it was release Way back when but Nope. All you get is a 'Spandex' morph for the body, and facial morphs. You get absolutely No morphs for minipulating the body Form other the 'Spandex'. If your planning on Buying Vicki 3, while her jointing and the higher mesh do make her a bit more flexable - You better Grab The Morph packs for the Face and Body or you'll be sitting in a cold dark room with nothing to work with. This is by far The Worst release i've seen from daz. If you can't afford the Packs here's my suggestion - Go grab there UV Maps, Map Vicki 2 to the Vicki 3 Templates and just use the new texture maps, Least then you'll have SOME morphs to work with without empting your bank account at the same time.

tastiger ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 4:38 AM

Hang on guys - you are talking $US here - not all of us live in the good old USA.... Base upgrade for me in Australia is $46 - pretty expensive little toy for a hobby .............add onto that all the accessories..... Considering the original Poser program only cost me $AUD 400 plus upgtrades to P4, Pro Pak and P5 ........... $US77.00 = about $AUD140.00 - one model ????????? Bit like the original cost of Victoria .... steep!

Wasn't V2 around $69.00 (textures seperate) when she first came out? The V3 figure (upgrade), plus 2/morph paks, (textures seperate), with $10.00 off is around $45.00 ($31.50 if a Platinum Club member). A better figure, plus morphs at a cheaper price than V2. Almost the price of some V2 textures.

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 4:59 AM

And no where near the morphs that come in Victoria 1

Eowyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 4:59 AM

I can't believe you guys aren't happy with her... she is incredible. I've only played a little so far but I think the DAZ team has done an AMAZING job on her. And I am not one to give that kind of a compliment easily!

Philywebrider ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:11 AM

Cale68 but the price for V3 WITH the morphs is cheaper than V2 when she came out.

Eowyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:19 AM

And V3 is absolutely superior compared to V2... so I can't believe people are bitching about the price?!? I paid less than $40 for the base upgrade, both morph sets and two texture sets - and you think that's EXPENSIVE?

from what I heard on the Poser newsgroup, she's a major-league RAM hog, so I'll probably wait until I get around to upgrading my computer before I even consider getting V3...

V3 ROCKS!!!! DAZ did an excellent job on her. There was a LOT of time put into her & if you'd of purchased the Plat.Club, (I did) you could get EVERYTHING for V3 at $57.28. That's not bad at all, especialy considering the amount of time they put into her!!

But, you can't please all of the ppl all of the time, only some of the ppl some of the time!! There's ALWAYS going to be bitchers because they have nothing better in life to do.

Just my .02 cents!!

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:42 AM

hrm... i got the vicki 2 upgrade for ... what was that... 39.95?... Vicki 3, no textures Eats up 30 megs of ram.

Migal ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:43 AM

V3 is less than V2 was, period. I got the V3 upgrade (and they'll let you upgrade from V1, although I have V2), all the morphs, the universal high-res texture, the make-up textures, and Anton's (assuming it's Anton's) new bombshell hair for 57 bucks. The Platinum Club membership helps. Competition? Judy? V3? Puh-leez. Inventing an association between V3 and Daz Studio? Are you guys CL thread plants, or just pessimists? Relax. It's all good here.

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:44 AM

oh and keep in mind, alotta people did not join the plat club, and i doubt there gonna throw out 99.95 just to save 40 dollars.

Eowyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:47 AM

I wouldn't consider her a RAM hog... it all depends on how many morphs you load on her. My computer is anything but super fast (PIII & 512mb RAM) and she works very well.

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:51 AM

well ya eowyn, but think about this too, lotta the poser people still have 256 or less ram, that extra 256 makes alotta difference.

Tamela.J. ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:51 AM

No, V3 is not a RAM hog! I have tested her on my P3 550MHz 256MBs RAM & she was great, on my P4 2.533GHz 3Gigz RAM she was great, my P3 850MHz 1Gig Ram she was great! All High Res Textures, ALL (Head & Body) Morphs.

Migal ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:54 AM

You know you could have purchased the Platinum Club for fifty bucks a little while ago. DAZ was very forthcoming about the discounts it would provide on things like V3. Look, I bought Anton's Changing Ponytail and every associated item on DAZ's site half a year ago for quite a bit more than I just paid for V3 with morphs, a bunch of textures and some new conforming hair. Now all the Changing Ponytail stuff I have, combined, sells for six bucks in the Platinum club. I don't feel ripped off because I'm not going to complain about a company's overall prices coming down. And you can get a 256 megabyte stick for less than you paid for V2. If you can't afford that, I'd suggest running V3 in Poser 4 instead of Poser 5, that should save you a couple hundred megabytes of RAM and a significant amount of processing. And I'm not a CL or P5 basher. I'm just saying it like it is.

PheonixRising ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:05 AM

Just playing with her half an hour or so -- for my two cents' worth of opinion, she is one of the BEST things DAZ has ever released (also got the head/body morphs, worth every penny). Someone said in a preview post something like V3 compared to V2 was like the original Vicki compared to Posette -- and that, I think, is a gross understatement. Now please excuse me, I have to go wire my jaw up and find my socks -- I think they got blown into the next county :-)

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:19 AM

Ram is not a issue for me, with amost a gig of ram vicki 3 better not be a issue. Why didn't i sign up to the club when daz had it at 50? um. cause some of us don't have money to throw around on things like that, me being one of them. Main Complaint about Vicki 3 - Its broke up into 4 packs for you to get what you need to make it workable. 1 or 2 Packs by themselves do Not make it workable. You have to buy 3 packs off the bat being a total of 53.88 for those without vicki 2, 43.88 for those with vicki 2 who can buy it before the 30th. And still even after buying that, it doesn't have the Full workability. You have to Manually add the morphs to the figure, which takes about forever to add them all (yes even using the ones that say 'add all morphs' for the part) By the time your done paying out for vicki 3, if you bought 1 of each your paying 132.43 (122.43 for those upgrading) if your not a member of the plat club. Rip Off? yeah i feel ripped off, here i forked out more then i payed for vicki 2 & her clothes pack already with the other stuff i just now bought and what do i have to show for it? a nakkid figure with little flexabiliy for body shaping. Yes the textures are nice, and I would of paid more for them, but, I do not feel the figure is worth the value even with it being on sale. What the heck happened? no offense daz but from the way that you've made things in the past i've come to expect improvements with each version up, the only real improvement i see here, no offense is, 1 new uv mapping, which your sites suppying for free on the v3 page, and 2 the joints are improved. I'd been working on some morph setups for vicki 2 for over a month now, I i bought vicki 3 expecting to see more then what I did, perhaps its just a expectation thing that i've come to see with Daz, but it doesn't seem better yet. PheonixRising - Before I say ya, please refund me, i'll delete her, are you going to be making Compatability morphs for her any time real soon so that she works in co-oop to vicki 2's morph settings? If not, who do i email?

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:31 AM

I just bought the 'body' morph pack to add to it, its got the morphs now however... Vicki 2 MOR Poses still don't work with the body. (MOR as is Pose file containing morph settings) Without the morph compatability, I can see over 300 dollars (possibly more with stuff not currently in my poser dir) in purchases going down the drain already that was bought for vicki 2 that mainly delt with characters.

PheonixRising ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:32 AM

Caleb68, In all everything included for the base product is clearly list on the product page including the price. I do believe you are dissapointed but I also think you are going a bit overboard. It sounds to me you have been working really hard on your V2 and are upset more about not being able to tranfer all your work. I am sorry but people were expecting something new. There is no need to get so upset. Just call 1-800-267-5170 and they will direct you to who you need to speak to. Just that simple. Again sorry she isn't what you wanted. Anton

We posted same time. Caleb68, New figures require new poses, clothes and such. Is is part of the way it works when things change and improve. You can still finish your work on your V2 figure. To make her what you want she would be crippled and just V2 all over again. And there would be no point in that. Sleep on it and you may feel different about it.

cross post, sorry bout that. Not really upset as much as erm... frustrated? If it was ment to be something new, no offense, shouldn't it of been named something different then 'victoria 3'? cause, with the lack of compatability between the previous victorias and this one, it doesn't make much sense on normal reasoning... when you labeled it as Victoria 3 and i saw it at your site today (no didn't read about it in the forums first) I was under the impression, even from the rightups, that its a 'upgrade' of vicki 2, not something totally new to where there is no compatability between the two. Guess ya missed my question bout before i go the refund route, will there be a set of compatability morphs / morph injectors built to make it compatable with vicki 2 morph settings any time in the near future? Its not only frustrating because of what i've been working on but because of all the stuff i've bought in the past for Victoria.

Momcat ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:42 AM

(rounding up) Base V3 standalone+ $32. Head Morphs+ $16. Body morphs+ $16. Total for a bundle vaguely equivelent to V2 standalone= $64 Keep in mind that with the morphs and the major overhaul, this is a completely new, and seriously advanced model. Now, take off the $10 discount for purchasing all three DLs as a bundle: $54. That's LESS than V2 standalone, plus; the base model comes with an additional backwards compatable model, that will take V1 & V2 textures/clothes. $54 is not an unreasonable price for this package. Which also happens to come to $52 euros, or $34BP, or $96AUD If you cannot justify spending the money for a hobby, then you can't. That doesn't mean that the price is too high, it just means that your budgeting priorities are different, or won't allow for it. And yes, if you do not do a lot of shopping at DAZ, then the Platinum Club may not be such a bargain for you. For those of us that do shop there often, it is an excellent value. We are not paying $99 just to pay $2 for a mouse, or save $40 on the latest model. The club has a lot more to offer than that, and allows many of us who could not afford to purchase more for much much less.

I don't know about anyone else - but add up all you have spent on both Poser and stuff from Daz as well as Renderosity and numerous other merchants(and again - no offence to Daz - they are a business after all) - but I think in total what I have spent on Poser and figures I could have bought myself a copy of Maya. Looks like this will be one expensive hobby I will have to bypass in future ...........

lol tastiger, i've spent over 9k on poser stuff already (EEK!) hear ya there. PheonixRising hrm... maybe were miscommunicating on what i mean by compatability morph... ok... with the v3 body morph settings, some, not all, that do the same thing on vicki 2 on vicki 3 are named differenty just slightly, like pPregnant, pNaveRaise, etc. Just making it so that morph settings between the two are compatable gives the individuals a chance to put there characters for Vicki 2 onto the vicki 3 body and the 'fine tune them' so that it does look better. you named some of them the same, why not all of them instead of the minor funky naming? Can't see how this would effect a Character if truely new, from being new. This would be less time consuming for your customers, and They would most likely thank you for it in the future. Magnets are easy enough to transfer, if there even going to really be needed, some of the shaping on vicki 3 is better. But the big thing is going to be morphs, Shrugs who knows... maybe im just too L i donno This Does raise another couple questions though :/ clothes? when? how much more?

Eowyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:52 AM

I've spent about $1,000 at the Renderosity MarketPlace during the past 18 months. I don't know how much at Daz but plenty there as well. I am FAR from rich but I also know that practically EVERYTHING costs and this just happens to be a hobby I really like. If you don't want to spend money on Poser, it's indeed a question of your priorities and not necessarily the price of the Poser items. And we were told all along that V3 wouldn't be compatible with V2 clothes and textures so that's surely not a surprise.

PheonixRising ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:56 AM

Caleb68, "will there be a set of compatability morphs / morph injectors built to make it compatable with vicki 2 morph settings any time in the near future?" Most of the morphs have the same names but due to injection the interal labels are likely different. No way around that. But aside from that her morphs are almost completely different. Similar effect but the shapes are improved. Old settings would likely just deform her. People make poses and morphs to account for deformation and avoid flaw. If the flaws have been reduced oor removed completely, those old poses will just deform her by accounting for things that don't exist anymore. I remember how much I hated switching from Posette to Vicki but in the end I forgot why I ever cared. We kept the name Vicki because she is now an industry standard like "Photoshop" or "Mustang". she has a following and is like a brand name. V3 started as V2 so it makes sense to still call her Vicki. Tastiger, I am a serial hobbyist and have tried everything from Bonsai trees to paintball. Hobbies are never cheap and not for everyone. We did the best we could on pricing as we always do. There is plenty of default figures and freestuff to keep your Poser hobby going. You don't have to own V3 to enjoy Poser. Just remeber that she is only the price of a pair of good jeans. Anton

I've mentiond to DAZ that resumable downloads would be a good thing but I don't think they use them yet?

I have just purchased it all and I have to say that the only thing that is overpriced in my opinion is the highlights-contour maps, which is basically the base map + some highlights that can be mimicked easily with a little photoshop work on the regular maps. As for the other things I have to say that I feel like STEALING to get a product so good for such a LOW price. Summing up the promotional discount and Platinum club discount, plus the Platinum price on the fashion maps (great work on those Anton), I could purchase the whole thing at a price that kind of makes me ashamed, if I think of all the work that's obviously behind V3! DAZ is a GREAT company that makes fantastic products... now if only DAZ could finally answer to my request for the Grecian updates...
