Anton, what time EST does the sales division get in? I'm missing an item on my DL page and I'm curious about how long it might be till that gets fixed.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 8:20 AM

Momcat - count two hours back from EST and you get DAZ time. It is, as I type this here in Utah, 7:20am Mountain Std. time (I usually give first lecture @ 8am sharp), and DAZ should be up and at it by 9am MST/11am EST. You'll probably want to talk to Reba West when you call, and it can prolly get fixed within minutes of her knowing about it. HTH a little, /P

rtamesis ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 8:21 AM

I also have the same problem missing the new conforming hair for V3 that I ordered at the same time as V3 and all the morphs and texture maps.

Momcat ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 8:31 AM

Yup, that's what is missing from mine as well. Oh well; I'm sure they'll fix it soon enough.

3-DArena ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 8:54 AM

Caleb by reading the description one can tell that there are no basic morphs included, because none are listed for the base mesh. tastiger - one generally gets what they pay for, DAZ models have always been well priced (been to turbo squid lately?) and she is cheaper than V2 - doesn't make buying her any easier of course, but then again you don't have to, you can keep V2 or Posette or that scarey Judy. But come on 3D isn't a cheap "hobby", never has been never will be, in fact it is more likely to get more and more expensive the more involved a person gets into the hobby. So if you have a problem with paying more for models maybe it's toime for a new "hobby". Should've gotten the Platinum Club when it was on sale - DAZ was very open and the Platinum club gives a discount on all DAZ created products soit was obvious that would mean V3 and her stuff. If you chose not to - that's your own issue. When on sale it was a great bargain, I bought over $230.00 worth of products the first week and spent only $36.24 total, include the $50.00 for the Platinum Club and I still spent less than $100.00 for the products I bought my first week. Of course for me Poser isn't technically a "hobby" and all my purchases are tax write-offs anyhow. Of course I've bought plenty since and I knew that V3 wouod be discounted for me. As for competiting with Judy - I think it's the other way around lol Judy was meant to compete with Vicky 2.0 and from what I've heard she doesn't do that very well. As for V2 compatibility with morphs - DAZ has stateed over and over again that V3 would not be compatible to V2 morphs so why the sudden frustration and surprise?

Haven't had a chance to download my purchases yet but I for one am pretty content with the price. Take a trip over to Turbosquid for an eye-opener as to what pretty basic non-poseable models will cost you. I know _ I sell some stuff over there which quite frankly with TS pricing policy is downright embarrassing. Ok, it and many other companies cater for the 'professional' market. But from what I see V3 is a 'professional' level model, I think we get a little spoilt here with the low prices and generous free stuff. Us hobbyists probably don't 'need' a V3 but then we didn't need V1_ what was wrong with the old P3 nude_you could just about tell she was female? Progress costs

pdxjims ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 9:06 AM

Reallity check. Most of us are getting the upgrade version of the base. To me this corresponds to the old V1 since most morphs aren't included. Getting the head and body morph upgrades make V3 more in line with the options of V2. If you have the Platinum Club, the discounts get pretty heavy between the 30% off and the introduction pricing. I was able to get V3 with all morphs and High Res maps for $44.19 (US). For a model of this level with texture maps, that isn't too bad at all. I don't bother with the other textures, it's easier to convert the high res ones in a paint program and save them as a lower res. The only grip I have is that the install assumed I have P4 installed and not P5, so I have to convert the damn bump maps. Victoria 3.0 Base Upgrade $29.95 $6.77 $29.95 Victoria 3.0 Head Morph Pak $19.95 $11.17 $19.95 Victoria 3.0 Body Morph Pak $19.95 $11.17 $19.95 Victoria 3.0 Universal Texture Maps (High Res) $24.95 $13.09 $24.95 Fashion Model Face Maps for V3 $19.95 $1.99 $19.95 Discounts: $-28.46 $-4.37 $-4.19 $-2.79 $-10.00 Grand total: $44.19

The way I see it, Vicki isn't the only thing that's been upgraded. Poser itself has just been improved, finally. And I think it's a pretty inexpensive upgrade. I know people with hobbies such as golf, fishing, and boating. They ALL spend more per year on their hobbies than I spend on mine (3d graphics).

Not so long ago you would have had to pay a couple of thousand dollars for a model like Vickie 3. Those were reserved for the professionnal animation houses back then with the $50,000 workstations. We have been pretty spoiled with the advent of the Vickie line. Try and model one of those and you will see how cheap she is.

Yep, Dominique, I was just going to point out try finding something like V3 from other companies that supply 3d models and look at their costs. Heck, they charge $100 for non posable 3d cartoony type critters! So even at $100 V3 is way more for your money than most 3d models out there. Daz did an excellent job as per their reputation. I feel lucky we have a Daz that cheaply feeds our hobby needs/wants.

I dont see what the complaining is about. V3 utilizes new features, is more versatile.. is DISCOUNTED... even if you AREN'T in the PC. Some people just complain to be complaining it seems sometimes. You get V3 and all her stuff for LESS than V2 and you're complaining ?! Oh gosh, please. Look at how streamlined her joints are... does V2 even have those capabilities ? Heck, I would be at Daz getting her b4 the discounts off and not wasting my time complaining. Gosh.. ugh

None of Vicky2 clothes fit her? Can the Tailor fix this?

duanemoody ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 1:11 PM

She's jointed differently. The Tailor is about moving the morphs from a figure to already-compatible clothing, not recutting meshes to match different figures' joint setups. My guess is that the excellent fellows who recut V base clothing for P4F and vice versa in freestuff might reprise their roles and recut the V CloPak for V3's joints while retaining the same UVmapping for texture compatibility.

Hisminky ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 1:50 PM

I really like the looks of V3, but I already have 3000+ in vicky 2 clothing and textures. I'd hate to have to replace ALL of that. I don't have a problem with the cost of V3. She is very reasonably priced, but dressing her seems like its going to be problematic

3-DArena ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 1:54 PM

Bet most of the clothes will be PC available (except a clothing pack if they release that)

I'm really digging this model. Thoroughly impressed. She bends well, the morphs are excellent. Hisminky, I know how you feel. I'm looking into recutting and adjusting joints to some of my vickie clothing. However, she comes subdivided on the texture level, so its a snap to give her a bodysuit, stockings or gloves look.

If I don't have V3, then I won't be tempted, yanno? Don't get me wrong, I WANT V3, but I simply don't have the funds I used to have.

Happy holidays to you too, Q and everyone else in Poserland! I think that Anton's reply "I remember how much I hated switching from Posette to Vicki but in the end I forgot why I ever cared." hits it right on the head. There's going to be some adjusting to do with this character. A lot of things to explore and see "how they did it" in order to work up old clothes/poses/new textures. This community has a knack for finding the workarounds and fixes. And I know how some people feel about their current projects not working 100% with the new character. At 3-D Arena, like most character/clothing makers, we've been doing stuff for V1/V2/Steph. It's difficult to see the playing field change a bit. However, I think DAZ has made a valiant attempt to make V3 backwards compatible. There's a V3 to V2 version included and V3 to V2 UVs available as a free download. We are all still a community (an emotionally charged one, but still). There's no reason at all why the character can't work for us the way we want it too. Look at all the effort and sharing that came from the Platinum Club mouse - I'm not a big fan of the mouse - but the comaraderie it created was warming. :)

Has anybody tried using Serge Marck's Poser 5 tutorial for changing clothing to fit other characters with Victoria 3? You can use this method to shrink adult clothing to the kids, etc.

hrm .. apparently i misread part of it over at daz. I wonder if daz will make it so Vicki 2 can use the Vicki 3 Templates... I just took a look at the templates.. she looks like someone skinned her and stuck her on a drying rack, ok who's the canabal working at daz? lol ;) j/k. So... in this case... Any chance of Getting a V2 to V3 Template setup?

Tirjasdyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 4:09 PM

Hrm...who says you have to stop using V2...some of the complaints say "but I sunk this much into v2, or i'm doing stuff with v2..etc" My question is why stop? V2 and V3 are different..so? treat them as different then...I have that method pigfish mentioned on my site as well, I have to try it with her tonight(assuming I have time), don'tcha love universal gift certificates, I usually get mine in time for yule.

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:12 PM

hrm... more compatability? even a 'little' compatability would be nicer ;) They did a p4 mapped version of vicki, so what would be the problem doing a v2 mapped version of v3? can't see any harm in that. And no offense again... people seem to think im upset when im just flustered, but, when will the basic clothes be out for her? i mean, aren't there enough naked vick's running around already?

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:31 PM

caleb68 - there is a V3 figures that takes V2 maps. Look for "Vicki 3 to Vicki 2." It works nicely.

"caleb68, Contact us tomorrow and And you can return her no problem. Sorry you are unhappy with your purchase. And yes she is cheaper than V2 was. Anton" I don't really think you've done the math, Anton... no, V3 is NOT cheaper... the Full non-sale versions of both V1 and V2 were $60 each which included all the morphs) In order to get V3 with the morphs, she'll apparently cost $79.95... that's $20 MORE!!!!! (oops, "$69.95 if you by them at the same time" thumbs up) I've got her without the morphs right now, and won't be able to get them until next month because I can only afford so much money each month for this... So, for the next month, I'm sitting here with an effectively USELESS model... No, I'm not happy with DAZ3D at the moment, in case you hadn't noticed... And stop saying that V3 (or at least say "the stripped down/no morphs version") is cheaper than the previous versions, that's false advertising.

Hisminky ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 7:50 AM

Anton, Your comment about switching from P4 to Vicki isn't quite the same. I've invested thousands of dollars into clothing V1 and V2. I simply cannot continue to invest in clothing and such any longer. If I do purchase V3,(or by some miracle one of my family takes pity on this Poser addict) I will not have the funds to USE her as I cannot afford to buy a wardrobe for her. My income has been drastically reduced. But lets paint a different picture here. Lets say I buy Vicki 3 and I clothe her adequately. Next year there will be a new industry standard in Vicky and yet another set of clothes to buy. What then have I spent?

Migal ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 8:14 AM

Hisminky, Don't be surprised if some of your V2 clothes are provided with free or very inexpensive V3 upgrades over the next couple months. Clothing models can be re-cut and re-jointed and I would think that many of the clothing makers do not wish to develop slow sales as a result of V3 being released. I suspect some of them will adapt, rather than starting over with completely new models that don't work on V2 and only work on V3. Philodox, I have to assume you didn't take advantage of the Platinum Club when it cost half what it currently does. Now you are saying you aren't going to take advantage of the initial release price on V3 products. If you can't afford to spend another dime, I understand. But, waiting is costing you a lot more in the long run.

Hisminky ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 9:19 AM

Migal, Yes, I did join the platinum club. I never said I wasn't going to purchase V3. You are mistaking my hesitation for the moment. It would be fabulous if some of the clothes I've already bought were reworked for V3. I will most likely get V3 as a gift from my S.O., he has already made noises about such(I won't know until christmas eve. And quite likely the project I am working on will have to include V3. In that respect I am dancing on the side of luck as my client will most likely foot the bill on models required for HIS stuff. My concern is(and so it should be for any merchant) is when does this hit market saturation? We've already seen a slump in sales for P5. How many more people are going to be able to afford MORE models and MORE clothes again and again as each new version of Vicky is released? Already my HD has over 10 gigs of models. Think on that for a moment. Next year (should my money tree bloom, I water it faithfully every day) Will my HD contain 20 gigs? 30 gigs? When do we say enough? I fully believe we will see a 12 step program for kicking the poser habit soon.

Philodox ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 9:23 AM

Actually, I've got both Platinum Club and V3... Unfortunately, I assumed they'd at least have the a set similar to the Vicki 1 morphs, so I got the Universal texture set instead, thus blowing this months budget ($30) on something I see as useless for next month when I can get the morphs...

aleks ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 9:40 AM

hisminsky: "How many more people are going to be able to afford MORE models and MORE clothes again and again as each new version of Vicky is released?" ever less. as long as there's isn't a new clothing/conforming system that works independently of model/cloth type. maybe i'm projecting my hopes herein but i believe that i read between anton's lines something about that in their new software. AND DON'T ASK FOR LINK!!!! ;)

Hisminky, My Platinum Club comment was intended for Philodox. Sorry for the confusion. As far as being a merchant and market saturation, I hope it won't happen. It is becoming more competitive, no doubt. But, new people discover Poser daily and all the products are new as far as they are concerned. I bought my daughter Poser for Xmas, so there's one new customer, at least. :-)
