I know before all of you scream or yell and smash me over my head with the suggestion to go to the Beta forum and find answers to my Poser5 problems,BUT I have left messages and have had no reply from CL that I know of yet(They are on a well deserved Vacation I here)And the folks who have helped I thank so much for even replying to my questions....So before I get all of you mad at me let me state here that I thank all of you befor hand for all of the help you can give and....Just plain Thanks... OK lets get technical.... I run an AMD Athlon 1.5 with 512 ddr and a Geforce2 64mb Nvidia mx400 40gig and 20gig as backup,running Win98SE... I install the Program,then the figures update,then the SR2.1 patch and I restart my computer(I also have let Poser start computer each time for updates too)and for the first time after each install I can run Poser 5 with no problems at all I even can fly from room to room and no glitches I have even tried to crash in the hair room but the first time after each install it is superb I love it....BUT be it two minutes,two hours or days when I start Poser5 it gets into the startup about 10-20 seconds and then I get the blue screen of death and I can not run Poser5 unless I un-install poser 5 and re-install Poser5 again then of course it starts all over again I am extremely happy after I install and try for the first time again but it still does the same thing on the second startup....And I know that my copy of Poser5 works great on WinXP home edition for I have installed it on a...AMD Athlon 1.9 w/1024 ddr and a Geforce3 64mb Nvidia with 2 80 gigs HD...And I love how I can go in and blast around and restart with no problems....Any and all suggestions will help I have started to save up for WinXP...Thanks all and Happy Holidays...

Go to your system tools in your start menu and select system information, from there go to tools and run some diagnostics. It more or less sounds like there's a conflict with either drivers or dll files. I use 98SE and sometimes its the OS with corrupt files or drivers that cause problems that Scandisk and other things don't pick up right away. Sometimes installing a program can even do that to them, so I'd check to see what's up with your OS first ... I hope this helps! DR

What software do you have running in the background? Especially on Win95/98/ME, software like virus scanners, firewalls, etc can affect the stability of other programs. Press ctrl-alt-del after a clean boot and look at the number of tasks: IIRC, a plain 98 install has only 2 or 3 tasks running. I don't run 98 for a while now, but I think you can safely kill all of those tasks except Explorer - then try running Poser 5 and see if it's more stable. You might want to clean up the relicts of some programs/utilities you don't use any more. Updating to XP could also solve your problem, but you might be better already with just a reinstall of Win98. However, IMHO a computer with as much power as yours should be running XP or 2k. Win98 is just not worth bothering with.

"Wrpspeed says"..."dont update to me. the blue screen of death will continue"That is what I am afraid of but all other programs run perfectly with no problems even I can slam Bryce and I still get no Glitches...Only On Poser5 Also why would it run Excellent on the installation startup but BSOD when trying to run Second time???Everytime???? On Dec 25th I will shut everything down and reinstall P5 and shut everything down except Explorer before I run Poser 5 for the second time after installing...And if it doesnt work then I will re-install Windows with the latest drivers and direct X drivers and such especially for my Bios and Board not too mention my video card...Still makes me wonder tho why Poser 5 runs that first time everytime but BSOD on the second try????? Thanks for the wonderful replys and suggestions...I am going to try anything at this point short of Breaking any laws.....

Logic sometimes has nothing to do with these things but... Logically, it almost sounds like Poser is modifying one of its startup files or registry entries when you run it, especially if everything else runs OK, even after the BSOD. It's a longshot but you might try looking at the files directly under the Poser directory. I have no idea what's there in P5, maybe something like the preferred state pz3 in P4. Check to see if any of them get modified after running Poser. Also, you might look at the CL keys in the registry and see if they change. If there is a change, maybe you can work around the problem by making backup copies of the files/entrys and restoring them before trying to run Poser again. Also. the obvious question, is that the latest patch you have, the one without the security stuff?

Thanks once again folks... Yep latest Patches...I am not too confident about going into the registry and tweaking things if you know what I mean,And if it is Poser 5 changeing things then it is a problem with P5 not my machine,Well now either way I look at it I am goint to have to spend well over a hundred bucks just to figure out what is going wrong with Poser 5.... 1. I either will spend the money on,Getting WinXP which is around $130 bucks OR more if I want to get Professional... 2. Pay some computer Tech to go into my Registry just to see if Poser 5 does change things and if it does then I will also have to pay them for much longer time just to make a backup of my registry and then change the registry before I run Poser 5 to see if that fixes problem,but then it might not so I am out all this money just to be told I am going to have to update my OS Because My Rocket ship Running Win98SE cant handle P5? But before I do get all hot and bothered I will wipe out and re-install Win98SE and get all of the updates and drivers for all of my hardware and then I will first install P5 before anything else and see what happens,I really hope it is this installation of Windows and not P5. I did run the Challenge and send off the e-mail to CL and they e-mailed me back and said to run the patches which I did and still do everytime..and everything would be fine,But it isnt,I think there is still some of the Lock codeing left and P5 see it and locks up so I cant use it...But it still makes me wonder about the running great the first time then BSOD on the second try....Do you folks think that the Registration code thingy is screwing up every installation of P5?Could the patch not have taken everything out and that is why the BSOD happens on running it the second time?And if it might have left stuff in there does anyone know of a TUTORIAL on deleteing all of the P5 BS from Windows....? If you want to save a few bucks, get the OEM version of XP. Pricegrabber tells me it can be had for $85.
