"Sneeuwklokje" does not damage the vocal chords when it is pronounced correctly. And since I always find it interesting to know how you pronounce words from other languages I thought I'd tell how it's pronounced. In case anyone is interested in it. Here's how to pronounce "sneeuwklokje": -"snee" is pronounced as "sna" like in "snake". -"uw" is pronounced as "w" like in "wet". -"klok" is pronounced as "clock". -"je" is pronounced as "yuh". The syllables of "sneeuwklokje" are sneeuw-klok-je.

Thanks, I can say that just fine "sneeuwklok-" (coughs) ....! .......! Really though, that was just a gag about my accent, when trying to speak anyone else's language, I'm sure a word with such a beautiful meaning has a beautiful sound to it when spoken by a native. Although we don't really sound like the Beverly Hillbillies here, some of us come close. (Like me) :^) As long as we're exchanging cultural data about our native tongues here's one from my neck of the woods. "Ya'll" (pronounced "yawl") is a contraction of "You all" and is never spoken to one person to ask about that person's health alone as in the commonly used phrase, "How are ya'll doing?" You are asking how he and ALL HIS FAMILY are, so translated, "How are you all doing" or "How is your family?" So a proper answer would be something like "We're doing fine." or something like, "Grandma's been awful sick lately." Never, "I'm just fine." Dad is bugged by this in movies and TV because they usually use it incorrectly. Mom says it's not worth griping about. I usually stay out of this argument. :^)
