Subject: Harrassment in The Virtual Tavern

This being a Merchant Oriented Digital site I did'nt think much of mentioning that I'd found a Universal DNS registrar, at an unbeatable price. A link had to be left for convenience sake, so I posted the referal URL givin to me when I became a member.

While AgentSmith seems to have appreciate the offer, kbennett, though having been helpful with hardware issues in the past, has locked my thread regarding this topic, in the Virtual Tavern, and only after several other more off color mentions were entered. He then refused to lock the next thread I began in the Virtual Tavern, entitled "This Forum Needs a New TOS", after it had deteriorated to fish stories of police and morocycles. His reason for doing this was that they are having "An important conversation about Donuts."

I believe this to be a philibustering abuse of power as Admin.! He blatently denied me relevant access to this site, then took my sincere return off onto a irrelevant tangent.

A swift explanation or apology will be appreciated. I maintain that this site is merchent oriented, therefore my using a refal link was not spamming, where both this site and my referal are computer related. And especially given the notriety of Nameslinger.com, whom maintain they can register any custom name to any custom extension, via the Pacific Root, for only 5 dollars!

Perhaps links to the appropriate threads will help decide the issue?

I cannot speak for other forums, only my own (Bryce). Mod's are basically given the responsibility of overseeing a specific Forum. While there are TOS rules here at Renderosity, the Mod's have to also think on their feet with everything that goes down in their forum. They must use their own judgement in day to day posts, and all this can depend on what Forum you are a Mod of. Meaning, your post referring to Nameslinger; It didn't directly break the TOS, as I saw it. But, that was MY judgement for MY forum. Also, The Bryce forum is a quieter one, and anyway, from time to time we ask one another about free/paid websites to host our stuff, redirects, etc. Also, no one in the forum complained about your post and actually discussed the subject. So, it was my judgement for my forum, that it was no problem. Other forums can and do see abuse stemming from types of post that are similar to yours DAILY/CONSTANTLY, so in this way each forumm can be different. The hard part of being a Mod isn't really dealing with rule breakers, its directing a forum in all it's grey areas. This explains my part. And, while I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with your post, (I don't believe you meant any harm by it), I can see where others would be upset at your giving this link out, with your refferal, in SO many forums. Many would see it as spamming. Just want to help illuminate all sides of this. AgentSmith

Again, if you hav'nt anything posotive to add then do'nt say anything at all. This is the exact efficiency I think Renderosity should be conscerned about. People who have nothing more intelligent to do than blurt one liners, waste resources, and become a mockery in the face of this establishment. = )

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 5:58 PM

One other side of it is that is somebody spams the forums with unwanted advertising, they should apologize, promise never to do it again, then let it drop and move on to something constructive.

"Again, if you haven't anything positive to add then don't say anything at all." Perhaps you should have tattled on the staff privately to the Admins,by directly e-mailing them. By publicly posting this, you leave yourself wide open for this kind of feedback and pretty much lose your right to direct others to stay out of it. Tom

jmahoney ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 6:09 PM

And you voluntarily left the thread. And why should the thread be locked because you asked for it to be? It's not your personal property. The conversation turned to other things and you retuned and demanded that it be locked! Hence the response you received. There was nothing on the mods part or in the thread after you left that warranted it being locked, other than your demands.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 6:10 PM

That is what this forum and the Admin ar for, to insure that only posotive injectures are added to thier investment. It should go without saying that this must be the policy, in ultimatum! The fact that I'm reiterating that fact, is a favor to those whom own the site! THough this is something I'm not willing to do on any perminant a basis whatsoever, hence this request for assurance. Else, we will let this go down the tubes, and then pick it up for a song and a dance. = )

Merchant posts about their products are moved to the Product Showcase forum. It was created because of spamming the forums with ads. Why should yours be any different? It was spam, it should have been moved and it was annoying to see it all over the forums.

I disagree, actually. I believe Mod's are SUPPOSED to be both sides of the fence.(In the best way possible) Meaning, I help discuss and hash the ideas and goings ons of Renderosity with other Mods, Admins in addition to the members. In my mind I have to keep; what could be and is good for Renderosity, what could be and is good for you the member, in addition to what everyone would like to see, etc, etc. So, I HAVE to do my best to see ALL sides. If I see only one side I limit my opinions to my bosses, which would in turn, will limit this site and its members. The Mod is the connection between the member and PTB. If I can't see both sides, and try to explain both sides, to both sides, I don't believe I'm doing a good job. And, actually, any other Mod, Admin, etc. can disagree with me with what I did, and that's fine. I'm still not going to delete your post in the Bryce Forum. If they delete your post in their froum, that's their decision. Now, if my bosses had a problem with your post in my forum, then we'd all have to talk, lol. And, I would explain to them what I have said above. (post #10) I think your post is no problem for the Bryce forum, keep it. My conviction is to Renderosity, and to try my best to see that a fair resolution is made in whatever situation. Sometimes it's for the members, sometimes it can't be done, and I can't help get the members what they want. I'm not taking sides, I hope I'm doing my job is all. Perhaps this coming off like I'm not backing you up, I am. I have not deleted your post, and am telling everyone I think it's fine. BUT, I cannot deny that I can see where others could be annoyed at how you went about it in so many places. (Hey, If I'm doing something wrong I expect any one of you to smack the back of my head) I would have suggested only a few posts in other forums, linking back to your full post in the Bryce forum. I know that may sound stupid, but sometimes you have to exercise subtlety on a website of thousands. I'll back up any member if they are right or even partially right, that's one of the things I'm here for, but I can't do it blindly, ignoring points that could have been...done differently. The Team at Renderosity is a Team, but we kinda have to trust each others insight to each Mod's forum they run. I think that would be their play. Man, I hope any of that made sense, lol. Agentsmith

Nobody has addressed the issue that my link was computer related, or that fact that this site is'nt free anymore, nor it's right to claim sovereignty from pay sites. At that Spam is such a terrible slang word, it's abuse will further iterate my notion that this site is guilty of poor service! It was my intelligence that began the thread, thus it's ends are from within my perspective! Hence, you should begin your own thread. I guess this is most of my point. If you ca'nt trust this site with your intillectual property, then I guess a need for another resource to move onto is an increasing reality. Please note that I mean this in the most sincere manner! I've a great admiration for this site, but if it is not willing to play it's own game, and refuses to take any responsability for offenses of said actions, then it is my own place to move on and do something. Allthough I wanted very much to focus much of myself on this URL, with all of it's wonderful hardware resources, I guess it would do much more to keep things more domestic. This is a shame, though I knew this site could be very powerful, so have I been aware of it's need for compassionate, a character this site is inevitably lacking! Sorry! = )

ScottA ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 7:25 PM

Cain.... Nobody is allowed to post the same message in multiple forums here. They aren't picking on you. Even if it was meant to be helpful. That's what the Team members term as "spamming" If you have a useful link. And it doesn't really fit into any of the forums. Post it in the OT forum or Pick one forum and ask the mods to move it to the proper forum if it doesn't fit where you posted it. The problem wasn't your link. The problem was you posted it to multiple forums. And that's frowned upon here. I'm not sure why the mods didn't tell you that themselves. Maybe they were too busy trying to calm you down? In any case. If you have a problem with a mod. The fastest way to resolve it is not to post here. But to them personally. Posting here just invites people to jump on you. But it's too late to stop that.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 7:35 PM

That information would have went a long way a few days ago, thanks!

Now, there is no excuse for what you see as people jumping on me. I'll gladly rectify that situation myself, per status quoe that could be frowned upon, but this is the reasoning behind my complaint, if this is not my own duty, then it's surely the admin. of this site's responsability to insure that this...is not happening to any of it's members andor patrons! Sorry to mention it, but if you legitimately expect to conduct business in here, then that is the way it must be done.

Your post was/is computer related, and related to members, because a lot of us, at some point puts our material up on a site. Yes, your link was computer related (IMO) But, now I'm confused/curious... Not free anymore? Independence from pay sites? Spam is a terrible slang word beacuse its a terrible thing, everyone on the internet, anywhere is fighting it...so you're saying Renderosity is guilty of poor service because they are a victim of spam? You realize most locked/deleted your post because they saw it as spam. That part confuses me... Intellicetual Property; this issue has nothing to do with it. This issue has to do with a link you posted in many forums that some didn't like. No offense, but that's about it as I see it. I have seen Renderosity take responsibility for its members when their property was at stake or being stolen. It's not splashed across the front page when it happens, but this site can be trusted with your property. Powerful doesn't always equal non-compassionate. But, Renderosity IS run by us human like monkeys and maybe we don't always act how you would like us to. From me, sorry. I do appreciate your thought-out post, it's a lot better than what we usually get...;o) I'll make sure kevin sees your post here. AgentSmith

CyberStretch ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 9:17 PM

Actually, AgentSmith, cain provided a link in the second thread. === Cain, If you want my honest opinion: The first thread was seemingly resulting in a potential flamewar between you and cambert; which is probably why it was locked. I cannot vouch for how many fora you posted the link into, but it would seem that it was enough for cambert to request you to stop. IIRC, I saw the same thread in the Poser forum - or one of the ones I frequent - so that would make at least 3 that it was posted to. Multiple posts of the same nature, especially when there is a financial aspect to it, is considered Spamming. Others could have ignored it as I had, and went on their merry way. However, each of us have a "personal threshold" and some are lower than others. The second thread, IMHO, lost any potential validity when you said "Kevin, put up or shut up!" in post 3. That could be seen as a challenge and, of course, all the members who frequent the Tavern will protect it. Although there was some harassment on both sides of the fence, it did not start until after post 3. kbennet, IMHO, conducted himself like any mod would and I do not see any vindictiveness toward you except after the challenge and several attempts to reason with you. I am sure you realize that I am not a R'osity shill by any means; just look through my history and you will see that I question their motives more than I applaud for them. A few words of advice: 1) Some things go over well, others do not. IMHO, the ones that are resulting in a flop are probably better left to die. No amount of discussion will likely change anyone's stance when both sides staunchly defend their opinions. 2) If you want only positive feedback, issuing a challenge is not the best way to achieve it. Lead by example. Sometimes, it is best to ignore the negative and still attempt to get the positive from the person you addressed it to. I am not taking sides one way or the other, but you asked for opinions and I presented mine.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 10:26 PM

Agent Smith I just wrote a lengthly reply to your last post and posted it, but I do'nt see it here... Basically it started out by explaining that if a sight were to take on the responsabilities of being a Free Site, it would have something to say about the kind of advertisments going in and out on a regular basis, but because Renderosity is'nt %100 free anymore it should be open the related data, i.e. referal links like the ones I posted. As long as they have something to do with the site premise. Then I went on to say that it would be nothing more than uncivilized to think that an origionator of a post would'nt be the one to tell when a post has gone off topic. Then I wrote something to the effect of even though we are human the idea should always be to stay here. And that at that you and I both know we feel for each other more so to boot. So, there is no excuse for people adding anything that is'nt posotive. In fact if we allow them to carry on in this way, then it will be them to notice our oversight, and demand a kings ransom! Sorry this is'nt as well put as the first time I wrote it, but I do'nt enjoy repeating myself. Thanks for your posotive input! = )

Hisminky ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 10:34 PM

Gee Cain, just cause you have an opinion, it doesn't mean that everyone will agree with you. I believe that Renderosity can run their site however they want. If they don't want spam in their fora, you can't change it. Unless, of course, you want to foot their hosting and bandwidth bill. An Imperial decree on what you think qualifies for an acceptable reply to your post won't help either. You'll just encourage everyone to grind on you.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2003 at 10:42 PM

CyberStretch - You should have read this post further before repeating what ScottA wrote. At that I think you should put more thought into camberts reasonless flames, and kbennett's blind eyes through that post and the next. I definatelt dissagree, kbennett should have benn much more consciensuos, by conducting himself opposite to what hes done. As ScottA has explained, in the face of camberts flames, kbennett ignorantly locked the first thread, and for equally ignorant reasons refuses to lock the follow up thread that has veared off on an equally dissfunctional heading! Thus, I'm very dissapointed by kbennetts vigilence to my membership. Even now you can go to my second post and see members running on about nothing at all! It'll be a cold day in H-E-Double Hockey Stick before I let anything with creative signature be continued without my blessing, per the charge of one kbennett, mind you! = )

Cain, no offense but you aren't winning friends and influencing people here. In fact you are building quite a reputation as a trouble maker with a target on his forhead and a sign that tells every other person "TARGET PRACTICE" THe more you go on and on the more you attract people to join in on the public thrashing. So you feel that you were wronged and the Moderator was biased. Well, welcome to the club, dude. Everyone here feels that at least once. It isn't a special or unique position. Maybe your URLS were cool. A different approach WOULD have been my choice, had I wanted to get positve results. Face the fact man, you screwed up and then you went out of your way to piss off TPTB. Reiterating the subject over and over will result in the SAME EFFECT. Learn from this experience. Mend fences if you can, cause you don't want the moderators marking you for the "moron factor", if they haven't already.

So, now that we're all down to earth(Meaning there is no Admin. Control here at Renderosity to affect such flamers)would you please leave this thread, as grand as it is, with anyone you know that agrees with you, untill you or any one you know that agrees with you feel like taking a much more posotive stance toward this subject? Seriously, you can't post a discussion in a public forum and expect to tell any and everyone who doesn't agree with you to take a hike. You're acting like a two year old and it's time someone told you. If you want to discuss the situation, discuss it like an adult.
I bought up the fact that merchants can only post ads in the Product Showcase forum and that your link, which was a referal program from what I saw, was no different. Did you attempt to discuss that fact? No, you seem to think you deserve prefferencial treatment than the rest of the merchants.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Mon, 20 January 2003 at 12:42 AM

Well a certain amount of conviction is required here hawkfyr. Neither cheap insults, nor begging the question is required! I've never started a negative thread, should I have I would expect it be deleted along with some level or explanation/compation. Refrainment from using terms anticipating anticipating any sort of "Target Practice," "Public Thrashing," or "Moron Factor!" In referance to the last three threads I started on this subject. The first was snubed, the second is still being carried further and further away from any needs I ever had as it's creator, and then there is this one, my last plea that the first thread be apologized for, the second be ended, and this layed to rest. Just like I said man...Then! You have no idea what Spam really was..is...will be, and you're coming at the objecture of "Why" from the wrong angle, for reasons already cover in this post. You'r ignorance to those facts is not appreciated! Please be more researched next time you ask a question like that again! Why not, there would be hell to pay if I were wrong, but... Kendra, I have no idea how you became involved in this, not do know how you realize I'm a merchant, why you would consider this outside business a product of mine, or why you would assume such a thing! You can rehash your perspectus of adulthood and get back to us. ..."When You Have Something Posotive To Add..."

cainbrogan ( ) posted Mon, 20 January 2003 at 12:49 AM

I guess the reason I say that so easily, and how people like hawfyr can say I tell people to take a hike, for me, is that if there were no one but my perspective of this situation I would eventually resolve it for myself, from within the space of this forum thread. First, by taking in any and all posotive feedback. Second, by remarking on how little else there is in the way of things that mearly interest us. Then, by reveling in the openess of the space afforded me by Renderosity, whereby laying this to rest once, and for all. = )

"A swift explanation or apology will be appreciated" "Merchant posts about their products are moved to the Product Showcase forum. It was created because of spamming the forums with ads. Why should yours be any different?" Okay so you got your swift explanation. Are you still expecting an apology? As agentsmith pointed out, kbennet handled the situation as he saw fit. Surely your not implying that you somehow are above the 700 + merchants who follow the rules and post their money making announcements in the products showcase forum. This line of thinking reminds me of the guy who drives up the shoulder during rush hour while everyone else sites in traffic. Like he is somehow "above the rest" so are you still wanting an apology? This is twice you were asked "what do you want"? which.BTW would steer the conversation back to your topic and therefore be a "positive"thread. But somehow you imply that my asking you a direct question is somehow immature yet you don't answer it. I'm not challenging you but your not making any sense. Tom

Hey this may be a factor of Manhood, but lets not forget the underlying promotion that wherever you beliefes lie, be it in harmony or in strife, the wheels if time keep moving...Hence there is never anything to debate really. So, it's when someone or something persistantly ignores your reiteration of one single point that the sparks start to fly from the beast's need to compensate for two things at once. ...Surely you want to eliminate from your post your referance of myelf and 700+ other members! I do'nt even have a car, that's how relative that liner was! Put closely enough together those to statements could be considered an attack... kbennett locked that thread in the midst of several flames directed toward me, without regarding that fact, and is abusing my first reply to that action, by letting and adding to a similar situation in the thread I replied in, after I requested he be man enough to at least act as he had in the past, which he has'nt! It is safe to say an apology wo'nt hurt! After that I'd like to see him be responsable for that apology and Lock the thread I replied to his action in as well! I've explained this more than once.
