I haven't even installed it yet, thought I'd let everyone know first! Major change to how materials are created and managed. Baz

It's a nice release but Tweak crashes. Might be better to wait for the next version! Baz

Tweak - there's already a 'patch' available, which fixes the problem :) pp

cool ability to make menus transparent as well ! is there anyway to change the tool tip highlight color ? its just a bel and whistle i know :)

BazC ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2003 at 7:22 PM

I can't find the transparent option, where is it? I'm not sure what you mean by the tool tip hghlight colour, sorry, you know about all the options in prefs I presume. I'd like to be able to change the object and outliner background colours too, maybe in a later release. Actually I think the whole app would benefit from a professional looking GUI, it looks a bit home grown at the moment. I don't think it's one of Bjorn's priorities though. I suppose, being open source someone might write a patch that allows skinning one day. Of course this is being really picky, otherwise I LOVE THIS APP!!!! Baz

<< I can't find the transparent option, where is it? >> Edit -> UI prefs -> Menu Bkgnd (say) -> A (Alpha) slider (adjust this) << then i like to just see my model so im wierd >> Well, there's at least 2 members of the 'weird club' :) Whilst it's great to be able to work in a 'comfortable' environment (check out 0.80 to see how much has improved) - it's surely the quality of what's being made (and the tools available) that's most important? Does painting the handle of your favourite carving chisel make you a better carver - or how you use it and how well the cutting edge is honed? Ask yourself the 'Bay' question - with the current Wings toolset, would he be able to make his usual quality of model? - or would he need a 'prettier / more pro 'looking' UI to do this? I suspect we all know the answer :) pp

Thanks PuzzledPaul, I hadn't noticed the A slider down there :o) Regarding your comments about functionality over aesthetics, I couldn't agree more! Still, it's nice to have both :o) Don't get me wrong, I love wings, it's the most enjoyable modeller I've ever tried and even if one day I can afford one of the big name apps I have a feeling that Wings will still be my main modeller. I love how uncluttered the interface is and how efficient the work flow is. I just think that the colours could be toned down a little, maybe have the option of text buttons instead of the pyramid symbols and a more attractive typeface (not possible in open GL I understand). It's no big deal, just expressing my views! :o) Baz

<< Still, it's nice to have both >> Yep, no argument:) It's always great to see a (real world) product that's 'just right' -imo. Elegant design, well made, works well, easy to use / maintain etc (not too many around these days) I suppose this is what we'd all like re wings - and I wouldn't argue - especially re user prefs for customising UI etc, because there's no way one UI will please everybody all the time :) I only made the comments I did because of the situation here - ie limited time /resources,(although it often doesn't seem that way!) and in this context I'd always like to see better / improved tools etc - rather than the reverse. There's also an interesting discussion re whether 'looking more professional/commercial - like the 'rest'' is good or bad? Job for the pub one night when it's catting 'n dogging? :) pp

"in this context I'd always like to see better / improved tools etc - rather than the reverse." Absolutely! :o) Baz
