I found this pic in a site explaining how to zap a CD in a microwave. A new form of fractal art? The URL is http://www.hamjudo.com/notes/cdrom.html

LOL! I can just hear the noises coming from my old microwave now!!! Actually, it does look pretty cool. Reminds me of baking marbles when I was a kid for a similar effect.

If you want to try this, use a friend's microwave. :-) Put the cd on something to raise it off of the oven floor about an inch or so. Then, zap it on high for 10-20 seconds. Turn off the lights and you'll see quite a show, as the high induced currents fry the thin aluminum layer in the cd. If you turn off the oven when the sparks begin to fly, you won't damage the oven (disclaimer--I'm not recommending that you do this, so don't sue me), but if you leave it on too long, you may start a fire. Have fun, Kerry

That's damn hilarious! I see some peoplle trying to get better effects than you and leaving it in too long and the nuker over-nukes and burns the house down. There ain't no safe way you could go close to a running on fire microwave...you get nuked too! I like the lightning bolts too. I once put in a frozen Skor candy bar not knowing there was mylar (flexible metal) in the wrapper and watched in horror as I thought I was done for. I thought the bolts would zap me if I tried to turn it off.
