Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 5:12 pm)
I have XP Home on NTFS too & PBooost works perfectly has done since I bought it months ago. I didn't need to fiddle with the Compatability Wizard either, in fact I've had only 1 program that needed the settings changed in the year I've had XP. It's a good point tho, I wonder if the Compatability Wizard is in Win2K as well (seems to be the worst for not liking PBooost) maybe someone with it will let us know.
No compatibility wizard in win2k. Win2k was originally NT5 but microsoft prolly didnt finish winME in time for the 2000 release so they renamed NT5 to win2k. Being an office OS based on the NT kernel win2k lacks DOS resources needed for (at the time anyway) many PC games. If you ask me..and I'm sure noone does..winXP is yet another slowed down OS by all its bells and whistles like the win9x tradition way up to winME and just getting worse. Dont mind me..I need coffee :)
I tried the compatibility tester, it says there is a problem with file locking, I believe. the main answer for this problem I have received is that I'm running a drive in FAT32 mode (which I am, I have one drive set up for Win98SE dual-boot). However, I'm thinking most likely it's because of having write-behind cache disabled on my temp directory; I did this in order to maintain a stable filesystem that could handle power outages, etc. This would in effect "lock" the file system; it doesn't appreciate things being written too while they are open. This could, I believe, keep Pbooost from properly working while poser was loaded. Which is really a shame, it looked sooooooo cool. I geuss I'll just keep using my bat files to rename directories.
have xppro dual boot with 98se on seperate disks and Pboost says it failed (probably due to fat32 on all disks) but since I had a new dedicated xppro; figured I would buy it anyway and run over network to control P4library.... Then I forgot what I was going to do (run thru lan) and installed it on my dualboot system and it worked (now dont have to fight wireless lan time). PPP is loaded on fat32 with xppro and not on the win98se boot disk - if that makes a difference?..? Of course when I boot 98se - pboost doesnt load but it wasn't installed for that.
I use XP Home with NTFS, tried the test, all passed after running Correct Reference. I'm now using PBooost with no problems.

It's another application in Freestuff; a companion piece to PBooost. It searches through Runtime and corrects incorrect references to texture flies. My understanding of the file locking problems in Poser are that they are caused mainly by an object trying to reference a texture file when the specified path is incorrect.

CorrectReference is currently being hosted on The Netherworks site. Further to what SamT wrote, when a texture is missing or in the wrong place, poser goes through every folder under textures looking for the texture it wants, but it has a nasty habit of keeping the folders open so when PBooost tries to switch banks it can't because Poser still has hold of them. Once CorrectReference is used on the library folders Poser no longer has to hunt the texture it goes straight to the right folder without opening every other folder hence no more locked folders.Whew just wanted to say that running a CorrectReference on your runtime can take a helluva time... I started mine at 2 pm and now at 11 pm (!!!) the balsted thing is STILL running. Oh and it IS running, correcting references and all...but whew.... and that's on a 12Gb runtime.... so beware if your runtime is in that size - or bigger...

Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Oh yeah, that's entirely true for the first time you run it. If you try it again at a later date, it won't take nearly as long. Also, the latest version of PBooost allows you to correct the references internally.

Question, What happens if an item looks for textures that are no longer there? Will correct Reference change it, or leave it blank. I lost a bunch of textures on a computer changeover a while back and don't want to try and reinstall everything. I retexture in another program anyway, so it's not a big deal if the textures are missing. I'd just like to know what Correct Reference would do to the items. Thanks
SamTherapy, it did TELL me to change it internally, but it didn't tell me HOW LOL And that deep File editor... well it looked nifty but I didn't have a clue on what to do, so I decided to run CR :o) Took it 10 hours to finish, but will you LOOK at my Texture folder now :oD Everything is in neat li'l folders now. Now Poser can find everything...and I can't find anything LOL

classic I'm using NTFS but when I first got PBooost I had the problem with locked folders, then a few weeks later Howard brought out CorrectReference & it solved the problem, it also speeds up poser when loading textures & figures with textures already assigned. ernyoka I should've said if you have a big runtime you should do it a bit at a time, the only folders that really have to be checked are character, pose, hair & props. you only need to check the others if you've put mat poses in them.

If you did, and have already purchased it, did you try the XP Home Edition Program Compatibility Wizard? Might want to check it out and see if it will run properly under other older Windows versions in XP. Check it out. I haven't bought it (Pbooost)yet because I flunked the test :-( or I would have. The Libraries are driving me NUTS!! _________________________________________________ To run the Program Compatibility Wizard In XP Home Edition Start the Program Compatibility Wizard. (Click Start, click Help and Support, click Fixing a problem, click Application and software problems, under Fix a problem click Getting older programs to run on Windows XP, and then click the Program Compatibility Wizard link in the instructions.) Follow the instructions in the wizard. The wizard prompts you to test your program in different modes and with various settings. For example, if the program was originally designed to run on Windows 95, set the Compatibility Mode to Windows 95 (many others), as shown in Figure 2 below (a pic of a button saying Runs in Win 95), and try running your program again. The wizard also allows you to try different settings, such as switching the display to 256 colors and the screen resolution to 640 x 480 pixels. The wizard will launch your program with the selected settings, and allow you to test how the program works. The final page of the wizard enables you to select whether to permanently apply the compatibility settings, abandon the changes, or save them and run the wizard again to apply different settings. It is likely that you will need to repeat this process until you find the correct Compatibility Mode. Has anyone tried this????
