Yeah, make a really comprehensive backup of everything you want to keep. Actually it's better to do a fresh install rather than an upgrade. Even tho the upgrade to XP is what I have, I always do a clean install. I don't want ANY vestiges of Win98SE behind to fiddle with things. I'm just paranoid I guess...LOL. Truth be told, I was really very fond of Win98SE. But I adore XP :o). Laurie
Thank you so much! Warm Regards, Nancy

If your C drive is where the fresh install is going, make sure that anything on that hard drive gets burned to CD or moved to your other Hard Drive. Everything on the Hard Drive your putting WinXPPro on will be lost. When they do a fresh install they reformat it. Very simple process & painless unless you have forgotten to back up everything on that drive.
If your email is on that drive you may want to back this up as well along with your address book. To do that, Go to File (in Outlook Express)Export, Address Book & save it on your other drive. That will back up your Address Book, to back up your email go, Tools, Options, Maintenance, Click the tab that says Store Folder Copy & Paste that in a Notepad then close the Options out by clicking ok, Go to Start on you Run & paste that store folder into the box, then click ok, it will pop up your email, make a folder on your other hard drive that says OE Email 03 or something like that, open the folder copy & paste all your email files from the email store folder. That will save all your email. :O)
Its very easy to put back too after the new install. Or you can keep your mail on that hard drive & change the store folder in Outlook Express, which is what I do.

If you already have the XP CD you can run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard from it under ME, pick what you want and put the resultant file on a CD which should enable you to restore address book, bookmarks etc. in one go (but make a standard backup too, in case it doesn't work). It worked for me with no probs., except having to specify the decimal seperator in Regional Settings before Poser would give me fractional values in parameter dials.
Thanks for the info! Warm Regards, Nancy

Hello, I am a nervous nellie about this. I am having a professional do a fresh install of Windows XP Pro ( I have ME and it stinks) I may sound stupid but does the fresh install still keep all the folders I have on my two hardrives? I have lots of folders for Poser and then other folders with various other things in them. I am looking forward to getting rid of ME! Thank you in advance. Warm Regards, Nancy Deer With Horns (SophiaDeer)
