Well, I hope they do a better job on OSX than they have on the PC. But given that the current code runs under the old MacOS, and the new code will have to run on OSX they might get a re-write... If they're unlucky they're going to get a ported version of the Win32 code, (link) or they may try to kludge the old code through the "classic" interface and hook it up to a new "carbonised" render engine, which means they wouldn't have to totally retool for OSX. I guess the thing that will count is what format the third party plugins come in. If they have functional OSX compatible libraries, etc. Then I would have though that would make the shift to OSX easier as all you will have to provide is "glue logic" like they did on the PC. However if they have to convert PC specific code to OSX then I can see them going the port or "carbon" route. I guess those brave enough to take the plunge will find out in July. Though they may want to read this page too: http://www.apple.com/macosx/technologies/ Incidentally did anyone see that V3.0 got a decent review in the new 3DWorld Mag. Wonder if Daz will com on board with the release of the OSX version. I guess they'll get to see the code before we do at any rate... later jbAttached Link: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12356&Form.ShowMessage=1137005

Poser 5 for the Mac timeline: (as history repeats itself) May 2003: Poser 5 for the OS X is offered for the pre-order price of $349.99. A few people buy it. June 2003: Poser 5 is shipped to the few people who bought it. The box claims it will work on OS 9. It does, but, like a lot of the features listed on the box, not that well. Late June 2003: Renderosity re-opens the Beta Test Forum for the Mac users who are complaining about not being able to register their copy and the amount of bugs. July 2003: Service Pack 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, 1.9, and 2.0 are released to fix the bugs. August 2003: Service Pack 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, and Beta 3.0 are released to fix the bugs. Mac users complain that they're being treated like Windows users by having to download a new Service Pack every few days. September 2003: Curious Labs drops the price to its regular "sale price" of $319.99. The few people who pre-ordered scream because they were charged more money for the privledge of buying early. CL (and Windows users) have no sympathy since CL did the same thing with the Windows version of Poser 5. Decemeber 2003: Amazon.com sells Poser 5 for the Mac for $99.99. CL tries to defend that they can't match that price.
