Subject: Interesting lattice

Actually was doing some Photoshop practice when this sprung up, this is a symettrical lattice, NOT made solid, and by using the clipping bracket on the UPPER part in the terrain editor, it cuts out/off the upper part of the lattice mesh. Never really thought about doing this before, myself. Has possibilities. AgentSmith

Strange huh? Looks like something from Echer. Dosen't make much spatial sense.

Looks like the toy my cats have where the ball rolls around in circles inside one of those rings you made - came out pretty interesting though

A decorative fixture mounted over a porthole, perhaps? Neat!

*after some tweaking* Actually, I was leaning more towards a Sci-Fi idea... ...maybe the back of an engine thruster... AS

How did yuo get the vertical holes? negative tori? sounds like CB talk (nega tori) ;)

These

The object is just one symmetrical lattice, nothing else. The holes happen when a symmetrical lattice (two-sided), is NOT made "solid" in the terrain editor, and then I took the UPPER clipping bracket and brought it down until it made the very top of the lattice turn yellow in the editor. Then when rendered it looked like the first post. AS

or a real short tiki torch. Looks a lot more realistic (I'm playing with exhaust..explains the blue tint on my skin..;) than what I'm getting, but I'm using cones for the overall effect..maybe a ball and cone might work..;)

Lol, I got a cylinder, two cones, three spheres, and a torus in there. AS

Man, i really need to work more in the terrain editor. AS, just add a flare to that last piece and you have a very cool engine! ...hope you dont mind me playing... :)

Agent Smith, This looks so neat! I'm impressed with this new rocket engine, but I'm almost as likely to understand how it works as I am to be able to understand string theory. It all goes to show that there are more things in the universe than are dreamed of in my philosophy. - meanwhile I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get skewing to work right in more than 1 dimension, looking at the code for an old set of fractal fractal programs(the hardest part was getting the "FAT" files onto the "NTFS" computer ) and O.T.: Dr. Kaku or his webmaster or (?) sent me the update for his site at www.mkaku.org and I was looking at the formulas Dr. K. uses to explain his 'string' theory. I'm not able to completely understand the calculus he uses as simple as it seems, but I have derived a new way of saying 'the black hole of emotional need'. I can now use the phrase 'the p-brane of emotive necessity'. (Of course I wouldn't use a term like that but it's nice to know I can.) It's an interesting site if you're into that sort of thing. I'll have to try something along the line of your lattice. Thanks for sharing! - TJ

I ran across Dr. Michio Kaku when I started doing research on Overunity for a project of mine. On the surface he is REALLY out there, but like listening to Scottish accents for an amount of time, after a while...he starts to make sense. (in a strange kind of way) I've been too paranoid and busy to switch over to NTFS yet... Skewing; makes my brain crawl for my ear canal in a desperate attempt to escape. In a word; "hard". I'll post up the greyscales for you people to play with, make'em do something! Make'em your own. Rochr, play all ya want! In fact I had put a strong flare in there, but thought it looked silly, well, in fact it did, I gotta dig out and install my old KPT, get my flares up to speed, lol. The base Photoshop one's kinda suck. AS

Here's the first one, from post #1. Like I said, if ya wanna make it like the one up there, make it a Sym. Lattice, DON'T make it "solid", and that terrain editor example looks that way after I "lowered" it a bit(raise/lower). Other than that, I resized the lattice to X=80,Y=4,z=80, and I think I "smoothed" it once, etc, etc. The actual design is smallish in the pic, because it was an exercise in using the deform filters, the design just ends up being that way. I'll have to make a bigger one, one that at least fits well onto a 512x512. AS

Here is outer and middle ring from post#7 outer ring is sized at; X=80,Y=6,Z=80 I then just duplicated that one, rotated it 45 degrees and sized it at; X=62,Y=10,Z=62 And, this one in turn is really just the first one, with some edges erased out.

The last one. The middle ring from post #7; again just some more erased edges from the original. I rotated it 90 degrees from the outer ring. Sized at; X=45,Y=10,Z=45 Btw, forgot to mention their Y heights Outer=15 Middle=17 Inner=22 Have fun! Go forth and make cat toys (with flares) Lol... AgentSmith

Gene Budarick has a tutorial on skewing. a few minor errors in it and
you need a pocket calculator that does tan or (tan)tables,
but it's pretty good as far as it goes.

Does anyone model with lattices? I'm pretty clueless about lattices AND modeling. I'd like to create some characters via Bryce. Doug

AgentSmith ( ) posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 1:48 AM

I've only done non-organic modeling. AS
