THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Brycers are better and better, have you noticed?

Ok, I just said that I'm rendering a two-days sucker, so I have time to browse and chatter (here it's 2 AM). I would like to talk about something I noticed lately. I'm not the I-just-can't-wait-to-rank-it-excellent kind of guy, but lately I surprised myself more and more in giving three, four or even five excellent ranks in a row in the Bryce gallery. And some days I even vote two or three images. So: it's me or you too have noticed a great improvement of the average quality of the Bryce images posted? I think most of the credit goes to this forum and to all the people who are more than glad to give away their techniques and share their skills with thorough explanations of the making ofs and the howdos. Would like to hear your opinion on these my 2 eurocents. Stefano

And I know, my English sucks. I translated all day, and I wish I could write in Italian :) S.

Wow, Crash. Your English is excellent. I'd never have guessed it wasn't your first language. While I don't have a lot of time to cruise the galleries, I do agree that this forum has had a big hand in helping improve the Byrce renders. I love the way everyone here is willing to share how they do what they do. I probably wouldn't still be attempting to learn byrce if it weren't for here. There may be other places out there but this one is so great I'll never bother to look elsewhere. Ang

Stefano you are absolutely correct, I have been a member here for a little over a month and if you looked in my gallery you would see that my artwork has improved incredibly, which all you guys here that respond to my questions get the credit. And I ecspecially thank AgentSmith for doing such a great job here at Renderosity 8P

forum, helps me a lot!!! i don't understand half of what i'm reading, but hey, i posted my first beginer pic less then a month ago, so i think there is some progress :)
plus, forum gives a lot of inspiration, like challenges for example (for which i still didn't start working hehe).

And also, i'm not sure if it's Bryce that gives people the spirit, but in other forums; much less action :)

I've posted questions in several of the other forums and can say I have gotten the most helpful responses here. I can also say that the techniques I have learned here I would not have learned on my own. Almost everything I am doing these days is a direct result of something from a pic, posting, or tutorial I discovered in this forum. AS and clay do indeed deserve kudos for running a good show here...but so do all those who participate in making this more of a community than just another bulletin board. ~~music fades in the background, screen fades to black~~

Wow DC, I almost posted this same type of message the other day. Found myself really checking out a lot of them in detail. Even here the challenges are getting tougher.

Before i joined Renderosity three months ago, i hung around in alt.binaries.3d.bryce, but in 2002 i did little to nothing when it comes to Bryce, i partially blame the atmosphere that is still hanging in that newsgroup after 9/11, you where with "THEM" or against "THEM" was the motto of some regular posters, the Antrax picture in my gallery is inspired by the behaviour of some of those newsgroup-members.

I do lurk in the newsgroup now, and the volume of posting has gone down as is the quality of what is posted there. Bryce has no radiosity is the point of view of a newsgroup member there, and he backed his statement with a render made in another program. That you can replicate that picture with Bryce does not matter, i mean it talks like a duck, it walks like a duck, so is it a Duck? And we proved here that Bryce in the right hands is a match for the much more expensive packages that float around.

And those hands are here, not overthere in the newsgroup.

That's why they're still there and you're here. Glad to have you around RobertJ. :)

hmm..all I can say is 'vorrei Coca Cola'..so don't feel bad. Actually, I'm getting a little frustrated myself..I think I've hit a plateau..my last 2 pics have been less than I desired. I think I've just picked the wrong mats or something..have to crack the books again and see what I can do to improve..hope to join the rest of y'all up there one of these days..;)

I find I improve by checking out the stuff of the best artists on Renderosity - not copying them, just getting inspiration. I think if it wasn't for the likes of jjsmlee, Rochr, sking etc. I might be tempted to complain about Bryce's limitations. Sometimes you need reminding just what is possible given a bit of dedication. One thing I have been finding on my last few pics - which is weird, is that for most of the time when I'm composing them I'm thinking they're total and utter crap. It's only when I push ahead with them and get them 90% finished that I concede they might be acceptable (although I'm never 100% happy with anything I produce). My cover comp entry that's rendering at the moment looked so bad in its early stages that - in all honesty - I was about to post it in this forum under the title "the worst Bryce image I've ever produced." The only reason I continued with it is that I didn't have the time to start over. And suddenly, when it was 90% done - I though it looked fine. So either way you look at it, my judgement sucks! :)

not to worry..I have a good idea of what I'm looking for..I just get things in the way sometimes. I've seen Bryce stuff since, oh 2001, so I got it with the intention of being able 'to do stuff like that'. As for bad pics, there was a thread a while back on 'your first Bryce pic', very humbling to all..;) The big thing is to experiment, to actually read (and not just download) the tutorials..and take more than 2 hours on each pic (my usual, since I'm at work most of the time..;) Maybe I'll try something different next time. Sometimes you do something, and it works out..
