Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
When I'm working in Poser, I'm totally, completely, absolutely immersed and absorbed. The radio or TV may be playing, but I have no idea what it's saying. That's exactly why I like Poser......

I usually have either music or tv on in the background.
When I have the tv on, it's either Cartoon Network, History Channel or Food Network.
When it's music, it's whatever fits the mood of the piece I'm working on. That could be anything from celtic to pop to techno to classical christmas music. :-)
I chat, browse the forum and listen to music. Most of my work is done in my head or on paper, with Poser being the final stages. I tend to post very little of what I render, most of my renders done for the sake of experiment.
Coppula eam se non posit acceptera jocularum.
Hmmms, Neat question! Have to agree, when I'm in the groove of much of anything artistic, Poser, Mehndi, Welding, whatever, I have no concept of time or the world around me.... Except strangely enough Music... A movie can be blaring in the background and I don't even notice, put on a CD of any music that I'm familiar enough to know the words/notes to and I just can't concentrate enough to do type or model... Weld and Mehndi, yes, Poser or LightWave no. How's that for one fly in the ointment?
I sometimes have music playing in the background, but most times I won't even notice when the cd has stopped playing, because I'm so much into the work (although I'm pretty sure I always sing along!). Sometimes people may even talk to me, and I would answer, but later have no recollection what so ever of the conversation... :) The only times I'm a bit "reachable" is when Poser is rendering, in which case I get bored and doodle something with the closest pen on whatever paper I can see. :)
I always listen to music. Always. I don't know why, really, but I very rarely do anything on the computer without music going (unless it's a program with sound). Usually Broadway (Posing is the only time period where I have enough time to get through the entire recording of Rent or Les Miserables) or French rock. I also really like instrumental playing when I'm being creative, so I don't get distracted by words. My No One Lives Forever game came with this awesome 60's mod-style music soundtrack that I've been listening to a lot lately. Lord of the Rings is nice too. -Stage
Sometimes play music or have TV (CNN or whatnot) in the background. Amazing how much you miss when your concentration is on Poser. During long renders, I may play guitar. Who here has looked at the clock, it's 01:00, and said, "Just a few more tweaks"? Then you look at the clock and it's 03:00 and say, "It's time for bed, really gotta save and stop." Then... ;) BYS
Well I am glad to know that I am not the only one that can fill up an ashtray while playing with Poser and I have a large ashtray. I swear though that I don't smoke them all. Most times I light 'em then put them down, they burn up, then light another. Of course the little can of compressed air comes in handy for the ashes that get stuck in the keyboard..LOL. Also the can of diet Coke is always nearby too.
Drinks lots of tea or pepsi (depending on whether or not we HAVE any pepsi). Usually munch on something sweet as well. Trying to ignore hubby and kids craving for attention. TV on in the daytime/evening (when hubby's still awake). Sometimes I listen to music, but not always. It can be all sorts or music. During renders I either browse the forums or read a book, still in front of my computer. Oh and I am TOO familiar with this "ah it's only 11 in the evening, I have plenty of time for this little..." then 10 minutes later, looks at clock. "WHAT? How is it 1am? And I need to get up again at 6?!" Sigh. I guess I can sleep once I get old. Really old ;o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
I have a network, so when I'm seriuosly working I'm pushing all three machines as hard as I can. I have ADHD so multiprocessing is the best way for me to work. About three cups of Coke to start the day then I'm off an running. On the browser-box, I'm usually reading rosity, downloading, and websurfing for resources. My stereo-box running MP3's (trance, techno, world..no english words) and notepad, so I can make notes about stuff that occurrs to me as I'm working. And on my main box Poser4 or 5, Uvmapper Pro and Photoshop. I flip between the two main boxes very often, any time poser of Photoshop is saving/rendering, or I need to think and thats when I go and read newsgroups and then pop back oer to phtoshop. Sure its fractured, but it fits my head and thats the important thing. At this point I'm doing this to support myself, so I'm spending between 8 and 12 hours a day in front of my systems. Woof. Be glad when the money starts coming in and I can slow down a tad ... But I'm still having a great time grin just being able to get into the groove and stay there, instead of having to do the corporate lackey job is a great great thing. BTW the soundtrack right now is AfroCelt, CHANTS, and Aerosmith. And Poser is rendering a scene with all four of Xurge's cyber models and 2 V3's grind grind grind Ah! poser went bing! seeya :)
I'm glad to see I'm not alone in the burned up cigarette situation. Hmm, let's see, usually the tv on in another room listening to football or basketball when the Oregon Ducks are playing (men's teams only). I switch between coffee, water, and fresh juices as the day progresses. Coffee does not keep me awake, so it's not unheard of for me to pour a cup of coffee at 10pm at night to drink. Occasionally if my husband is hope, he'll switch on the DVD player, or put on some music...usually a slow sensous jazz mix, latin mixes, drum corps music or college marching band sounds. I hear what's going on around me, but a fire engine could pull up to the house, and I'd only realize it when the firemen come in the front door to put out the fire from the smoke I've created from my cigs. Been known to start a render, and then get up in the middle of the night to check and see if everything is okay. Yes, it's an addition. Blues
Got rid of the large ashtray.
I now have a large metal bucket, with butts hitting it like spent cartridges from a machine gun.
I do loads of other drugs, particularly caffeine and alcohol late at night.
My enhanced computer biosphere environment has developed over time to cope with the three computers on my network.
My wife swears that I have secretly installed soundproofing in the computer bunker as I never seem to hear her calling me or other loud noises involving medical emergencies with the children and structural emergencies with the house (usually involving the children as well).
As a former journalist I remain a news junkie.
Radio newstations running in the computer bunker, brief forays into the living room to catch Sky News on the hour (usually accompanied by outraged screams from the children as the PS2 is temporarily disabled) and internet news reports.
The war in Iraq is probably going to kill me as sleep-deprivation has been added to the volatile mix. Exercise, regular meals and general health considerations have been abandoned.
And all because of Poser and 3D graphics....
I usually like to play music or a video on the TV behind me that sets to the mood of the image I'm working on. Especially at Halloween I like to play various Halloween tunes from Goth, Rock, to even Elvira's songs. Currently when I was working on some stuff for The Bleak Journey, since my land is fantasy I played Rick Wakman's LOTR CD a lot (I like the tune) or had the LOTR CD on the boob-tube (I've only seen the movie a few dozen times now - wish they'd realse The Two Towers soon!!) Right now I'm playing with Brycetech's V3 pirate outfit so I got some pirate type tunes, even Disney's Pirate's of the Carribian tune...hey, it sets the mood and like reminising of the old days when the pirates used to chase the wenches around those barrels...oh, the good old days... ;p Oh, and I smoke WAY TOO much.
It depends on what day it is and what's on TV (right next to my computer), drink Diet Pepsi, trying not to eat anything (trying to lose weight). Usually, when I'm rendering in the evening, I get drowsy, so I close my eyes and drift into a little catnap until the render is done. If it's a long render, I'll go in and mop the floor or change the cat box, fun stuff like that. :) Melanie
For me, it depends on how focused I am on the art-of-the-moment. If I KNOW what I want to do and have that burning my head, get it out quick! sensation of an idea that won't SHUT UP until I get it out... then there ain't nutt'n but the screen and Poser. No sense of time, no hunger, no thirst, no sound. Just the Program and the image in my head. If, however, I just want to mess around with some ideas, I listen to music, watch TV in the small corner box on my screen via my TV card, and sometimes read while waiting for a render to finish.
Well I fill up ashtrays pretty quickly as well :) And drink pots (not cups)of coffee regardless of what I'm doing on the computer. I always have the TV on in the background....CSPAN....that's about all I watch. I create at night and weekends....when my work schedule permits. When I'm really focusing on an image, I pretty much block out the tv and everything else, with one exception: My cats :) When they "meow", I jump :)
Dialyn: The fact that some of these folks can't spell is the fault of the elementary/secondary education system....and maybe their parents for not making them do their homework :) When they get to college they're suppose to know how to spell. If they don't....no one seems to give a rip. Plus, there's no "spell checker" in the forums! :) We can only hope that somewhere along the line they picked up the critical thinking capabilities that are needed to apply their college training correctly when they get a job :)
Thanks guys and gals, this helps a lot... i can't spell cuz i have a block for words... it's genetic as nether my father nor any of my brother can spell... it's real intresting, in a programing forum i posted at, most people played with things while writing there code, like toy guns or some kinda ball or something (like me and my zippo, i don't smoke anymore, i just light and put out the zippo) thanks again Kevin Giga
ok. for myself I usually listen to the kind of music of my current project, like for an example I'm creating a new goth/neo punk hair style for V3 so i'm listening to Sheep on drugs, Rammstein, or KMFDM. Music Effects my artistic project, as well as mood of the picture in question. Sometimes I do have cartoons playing on the TV because of my little boy. HEHE he's a big X-Men fan. ok cya l8rz Selket
My name is Darkginger and I have a Big Ashtray... Apart from filling that up, I also drink coffee, make coffee, let dogs in and out, tend to husband's coffee needs, look out of the window (we have a great view across a bay to mountains), listen to music if the hubbie puts it on (I don't dare try to play music on this machine at the same time as running Poser - it's that delicately balanced!), remove cats from keyboard - and that's about it!
I do housework whilst things are rendering - I have to do it SOMETIME! Be careful - they will be banning Poser as bad for the health if it is causing so many of you to chain smoke! My husband and son both play guitar so whilst I am 'doing arty things' I hear my hubby's guitar in the living room playing the blues and my son's from his bedroom on the other side of me, playing Travis hits (with singing!).
It seems that most listen to music while playing with Poser. I do that too and most of the time at night, late late night. But the past couple of months I haven't done much with Poser. Haven't been listening much music lately and have been sleeping earlier (due to recently scheduled earlier job shift).
As an aside on the spelling of "phycologie," perhaps the person who wrote it doesn't speak English as a first language. We need to remember to be sensitive to the fact that we have members from all over the world here. Back on topic, besides falling asleep while I render, I multi-task by working on other crafts while I wait. :) Melanie
No music. Otherwise those annoying entities AKA children would be climbing me as well as the cats. Must watch Buffy as the adult larva do not like the scary stuff. Keeps them away. Go Me. Have noticed a disturbing trait in that the Xfiles(seasons 1-6 on DVD) seem to attract said small people. Remind self to make note on locating children repelent. Smoke. Lots. Beeg Ashtray. Um, or three. Music bad, Buffy Good. And Angel is right up there too. Same with Xfiles, except for that bit about attracting the child monsters. Where did they come from anyway? Oh wait, I remember the 80's and part of the 90's. Nevermind.
I listen to a humongous collection of sci-fi movie music while I work, and drink gallons of ice water. I'm addicted to Coca-cola, so I only get to drink one when doing tasks I particularly loathe, like Poser file wrangling or dealing with a Poser convulsion ("cannot locate bum file, blah, blah, blah" HANG)....Sound familiar?! Oh, and then there's the more or less continuous parade of very overweight cats onto and off of my lap. Sometimes I get a shock when I become conscious enough to actually pet one of them and it's not the one I thought I was holding! Poser is the easiest method I know to practice Presence---existing only in the Now, timeless and endless. Even better than easel painting. Of course, the easel never crashed or hung up on me ;)

when your working in poser. Do you also chat? or listen to MP3's? or what.... i'm working on a phycologie paper, and need some information about what people whom are creative do while being creative.... ok, well i listen to Anime OST (mostly Hellsing) and play with my zippo. what about you?
