Subject: Poserosity

It seems to me Renderosity is aimed at the poser user, and is just becoming a sellers site, the news letter is mostly adverts for poser stuff. Ah well just my thoughts but from now on I will use 3dcommune instead.

Renderosity started out as the PFO (Poser forum on-line), so it does have a very strong Poser userbase, yes. But we do offer many other software forums, galleries, freestuff and so on. Is there something you would like to see here that we don't have?

The Gimp forum ;) I mainly use the Gimp, which is distributed freely with Linux, or there is a version ported to windows that you can link to through www.gimp.org. It's quite powerful, and comparable to Photoshop, even though it's free. Freehand and Illustrator are starting to become somewhat better - I think Freehand is the better of the two, however. Just a thought, not really a demand. I would moderate it if you'd like and have nobody else. Mariko Site coming soon: BizGraphique!

LOL. Check out the 'Love and Spring' contest: Rule 9 - "Any software can be used." 18 prizes on offer, every one a Poser accessory. Wonder which software the winner will be using ;-)

freehand and illustrator are completely different programs in comparison to photoshop and GIMP. as for a GIMP forum, there's almost no support for it here, however the 2D forum would be a welcome home for it. and 3D commune is just as poser-friendly as renderosity. If you dont want poser, go to epilogue.net or deviantart.com

The "Love and Spring" contest is a merchant contest. What they offer as prizes is up to them. Check out the: The birth of Amapi Designer 7 contest. Renderosity Magazine Issue 6 Cover Contest. LightWave 3D Forum - March Contest. February/March/April Carrara/Raydream Bugs Plants, and Flowers Contest! And the Mojo contest that just ended. http://www.renderosity.com/contest.ez?contest_id=165 Looks like more non-Poser contests to me...

I am also in the process of expanding the MarketPlace product offerings to include more Lightwave, Maya and 3DS MAX products. The free item in the weekly flyer was a Bryce 5 object file rather than a Poser product. We are working real hard towards exapnding the site so that it embraces a wider audience. oo oo, I won Aurora from digi element in a 2D contest last year, other winners got Zbrush, Expression and Studio Artist Pro...

...I can say with gladness that once you know where the tools are lurking, you can take almost any P-shop tute and adapt it to GIMP (I did just that with Adurino's 'Perfect-G!' texturing tutorial... and that tute is almost purely Photoshop-based.) Seriously - as long as it doesn't involve real freaky crap like tubes, you're all set :) /P

Interesting comment on tubes. Gimp is very powerful. I would expect that if the site were to hear more of a need from the membership that Renderosity would respond but I would also like to amplify the previous postings by saying that asking questions in the 2D forum would more than likely yield results. We've had Gimp users comment on it just in this forum alone. Seems like you can get feedback if you ask for it. We have LOTS of different people around here. I've never even used poser. Don't need to. -Kix

having 5 or 6 people say "LKet's have a GIMP forum" isn't going to get a forum, hell, there were maybe 15 people who wanted a photoshop gallery, and that really isn't even close to enough. Seriously, GIMP is not something rosity is concerned with. As GIMP users, you must know of other, better forums for GIMP that are used by people who care as much about the software as yourselves? "I've never even used poser. Don't need to." Unfortunately, there are several thousand users on this site that REALLY use poser... Seriously, I'm an avid bitmap and vector program user, no 3D for me. I personally come here for fun, but if I want hardcore duiscussion on 2D work, photoshop, Expression 3, etc, I go elsewhere. Fireworks is very powerful. Flash is THE standard for multimedia on the internet. Quark Xpress is on every graphic designer's hard drive. These programs are either barely represented at all (we have a vector forum that isnt really used), or not at all period, and very few people have shown an interest in getting forums for these products either. 5-10 people won't get a forum. 30-50 will. And considering that over 10,000 people have registered for this site (I know, maybe half actually come here frequently, la la la), 30-50 is a really small percentage, and not much to ask for. If the interest is there, it will happen. There isn't any predjudice going on here.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 5:22 PM

I agree - no need (yet) for a GIMP forum per se. There are lots of resources posted up, and lots more that can be posted (themes.org has a largely unused forum that would be perfect for this.) As for tubes, I apologize if I came off as arrogant, but I've never really seen a need for them :) Cheers, /P
