Aye, if you can't do it in UVMapper, maybe try making a duplicate of the chair, and boolean off the top section on the first chair, with a neg. cube or something. Then, on the second chair, alter the texture to fit the image! It woudl take a lot less time, but of course it might only work from this particular camera angle.
No what Stephen meant was if you imported the file as 3ds then what you need to do is click on the E in the menu next to the object in your working window then when the Smooth object window is showing you need to ctrl+D and save as an Object file so then you will be able to bring into UV mapper and map it...Also does these Converters convert from Quake,Unreal,Mds? to objects?

Anything 4 sided, I suggest "Object Cubic", (as Claymor said) and then, if it still looks strange, try tweaking the scale. (which is that first XYZ control you see in the "Edit Texture" box, which reads XYZ=25%) Something as small as a chair seat should look correct anywhere from -2% to +10%. It depends on the size of your original texture of course, but that might serve as rough guide. AS
