THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: DAM ATTACK - Revised, but not yet final

First, I would LOVE to take the credit for the bridge, but I can't. Found it quite a while ago on the net and didn't know what to do with it at the time. The textures were changed on the bridge to add bump, less ambiance, less diffusion to darken them (as Nuski suggested in the first post) and increased/decreased the scale on them and changed the mapping to cubic (as Aldaron suggested. Thanks. That was one thing that was bothering me). Added bump to the land textures and obviously changed the skies. Not sure which one I like best. Flak, the water is at 2 different heights, already. The perspective changed that on me, though. I made this a sort of sunset sky and wanted to try and put the sun behind the A-10's, but in doing that it made the foreground too dark and the tanks got swallowed by shadow.

This one is the same as the one above, except for the sky. Trying to keep enough light on the whole scene so that all is visible. As you can see in the updated images, I had to give our boy up there a wingman.

I made this one darker and threw in some haze and a low lying fog. If anyone was wondering, the inbound ordinance that was fired are 2 AGM-65 Maverick's. They are also sporting 4 AIM-120 AAMRAM on LAU-114 Dual rail adapters (one adapter on a hardpoint under each wing), 2 GBU-24 PAVEWAY III (one hardpoint under each wing) and 2 AIM-9M Sidewinders (one per hardpoint). I checked the ordinance capabilities and the A-10 can use this ordinance in a loadout. Trying to get a more realistic feel to this. Any other suggestion are welcome.

What are? > 4 AIM-120 AAMRAM on LAU-114 Dual rail adapters (one adapter on a hardpoint under each wing) 2 GBU-24 PAVEWAY III (one hardpoint under each wing) < Last scene looks good, its not too dark.

I actually like the sunset idea better. You could add a series of ranged light blue radial lights in the cealing of that walkway. That would lighten up the bridge some, but also give it a cold look. And perhaps a couple of "streetlights" on the bridge, lighting up parts of the road. But either way, you should turn down the ambience on the bridge textures. Makes it look kinda washed out.

IIRC AAMRAM are long range radar guide air to air missile and GBU are guide bombs that spray bomblets used mostly in destroying runways or convoys. This is purely by memory so I could be wrong but it's easy to look-up on the web. I like either the 2nd or 3rd render

Also, but some people on the bridge, both above with the tanks, and below on the foot bridge. Wherever there are tanks there are people. And those .50 calibers on the top of the tanks would be mained, and probably aimed up at those planes. Some tracer fire might be nice, and mostly ineffectual against the heavily armored A-10. Not to be picky, but the A-10 is called the warthog cause it stays in the bushes. The attack looks a bit high for a typical A-10 attack. Perhaps lower the wingman. But all in all, it's great image. My things are picky.

I made this up real quick for a little more clarity. GBU stands for Guided Bomb Unit as in laser guided bomb with this particular family of ordinance ranging from 500lbs up to 2000 lbs and is usually used against hardened structures. The AIM-120 AAMRAM is a new generation medium ranged supersonic, all weather, air-to-air missile weighing in at 340lbs. The LAU Rail will carry an AIM-120 on either side of it and will be attached to the aircrafts under-wing pylon. Aldaron, you're thinking of cluster munitions such as the Rockeye 20 and the the CBU-87. The delivery canister will open releasing hell on earth in the form of approximately 300 preformed fragments for defeating light armor and personnel. Back to the picture. Rochr, the ambiance on the textures is turned all the way down and the diffusion at 50. Maybe I should turn the diffusion down a bit more. I like the streetlight idea and the radials underneath the roadway. Was also contemplating the idea of foliage along the riverbank. Just not sure which image to work off of.

Thanks, now I and other folks know what you were talking about. Can I use a Paveway on a mud street?

Rochr ( ) posted Tue, 22 April 2003 at 5:06 PM

Well, if you want to use those radials, i think the effect would be greater with a darker sky/atmosphere. Kinda like a "burning sky" or similar. Allows you to play around more with lighting effects. But thats just my suggestion. :)

Seven, you can use a Paveway anywhere you's like to. But, will it "stick" to the mud? hehe Rochr, I changed the sky to an indian summer type of sky with a lot of orange that still allows for a bit of shadow in the foreground that will allow for a couple of streetlights. Trying to see if I can get a bit of volume in the light itself. Still playing around with it. I kind of understand what you mean by putting the lights under the bridge, but can you point me somewhere where I might see an example of it?

cool picture BOOMER. I take it you were a munitions troop ? I worked avionics on the F-16 and F-111.. radar, bomb/nav, radio. flight controls.. etc.

I personally like the first picture. Second choice is the third picture. Looking good. Lin

what about the 30mm gatling which takes up most of the plane..those things are just the diddy for getting rid of T-72's..a lot of this stuff you can look up in the Jane's books, the History (airplane) Channel, or heck, even a Tom Clancey novel..;)
Hard Points are mainly mounting brackets for munitions, drop tanks, electronics packages, etc. I think the Warthog (the affectionate name for this jet) has a few more than 2..;) but what the hey..good pic, but I think I'd be a bit higher and farther away before 'pickling'; otherwise you'd get clobbered by the giblets all that fraggin' will produce..but it's only a pic..keep it up.

I didn't know warthogs could load so much munition, that said I wouldn't like to swooping ground targets with a 500lb bomb beneath my armour, I guess deliver the pacakges first before making canon runs. Personally I like image 3 but there you go !!
