Subject: DAZ3D Platnum Club Rant

I don't expect anyone to respond in the same manner I feel, but lately? I feel like I wasted the money. I didn't get the membership when it was 69, because I didn't have the cash. I got my membership thinking I'd see all sorts of goodies and such. And yes, I have. I've gotten a LOT of /gorgeous/ stuff from the platnum club. BUT? Lately it seems DAZ3D's pledge is to create as little as they can for it. There's nothing there that I'm interested in, now! The last new product I bought was the Bloodlust costume, because it's really good, but... I've not seen anything else worth shelling out for. They've uploaded /two/ new items this week. Two last week. Wooooo. I've got 240 days left on my membership, and unless something bright and shiny starts going up on a regular basis, I think I'll be letting my membership run out. Yes, the stuff they've put in there is good, but it's not /enough/ variety to make someone interested in joining, and it's making me wish I'd just saved my money. Yes, the v3 dress is a beautiful figure, but I have some serious issues with the posability of it. I don't like spending twenty minutes making sure my dress isn't poking through the legs or vice versa.

I find the Platinum Club excellent. I have already gotten far more than the cost of my membership and I love the weekly items. Laurie S's textures are pure joy. I haven't bought every item they've brought out but there are still items there I could purchase if I wanted. I do somewhat agree with you about problems posing with the morphing dress. I would really appreciate a tutorial on how to do it correctly because it is quite time-consuming for me..my inability though at not using the dials correctly. I realize the morphs give it much more flexibility - it's just frustrating not knowing how properly to use them. But the Platinum Club is worth every cent. :) Irene

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 7:25 AM

Eh. Again, lately, I find it not to be. The textures by Laurie are /indeed/ wonderful, and I've bought most of them, but... There's something called variety that DAZ doesn't seem to get, lately. If they post 2 items a week for the entire year, that only makes 26 more items. That's not what was advertised when I joined.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 7:28 AM

I don't regret buying the subscription, but then I did manage to buy it at the special price. I think overall, I have gained quite a lot from it because of the reductions on other, non Platinum items which the membership gives. Since joining, I've bought V2, V3 and all the morphs, Stephanie, the new V3 catsuit, mumerous other clothing and hair items, textures, you name it. All the DAZ originals are discounted for Platinum members, so I consider it to be a good deal from that point alone. I'm quite happy with the Platinum items I've bought, too. I haven't given the dress any use yet, so I dunno what to say to that one.

Is the Platinum Club membership worth it? Let's see... even if you bought a full priced membership for $99, you've already saved money if you buy the Changing Ponytail, Egyptians and Spywear (assuming you'd want those three). I'd say that's one heck of a deal considering how much else you can buy for a ridiculously low price.

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 7:38 AM

shrugs I'm saying lately, not in general. Yes, the Egyptians, the Ponytail and the Spyware are ALL good deals. But they've been putting up next to nothing of late, and telling them what you want in the feedback forms brings, you guessed it, nothing in the way of change.

PC has been a little heavy on V3 stuff, and nothing for Mike in weeks and weeks. I'm glad for the membership bargins I've gotten, but I would like to see more variety. Again it's a case where Vicky gets everything. Of course, this is true with most content providers. However, there is nothing for Mike in over 30 items on the first page. Everything is for V3 on the current first page except for some elephant poses. Only 2 things on the second page (textures for the Ninja Suit), Nothing on the third page. So out of 72 featured releases, 2 textures for Mike clothing. A couple of exotic scenes. Tons of female stuff with a few things that have V3 male morphs (whoopee). And don't start with "Well, it can be fitted to Mike" stuff. Some things can, but it's not as good as things that are made for Mike. I hope that this is because they'll be releasing the same quantity for M3 when he comes out as for V3. According to Kupa a few months ago in a spot, the V3 development cycle was 6 months. He estimated the same time for M3. So, if everything is on schedule M3 should be released in teh next couple of months. Although Anton keeps saying M3 is still on the drawing board.

uh... read post, not spot. Sydexia strikes deep at 6:00 am.

LaurieA ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 8:44 AM

I think Anton mentioned once that the PC was more or less for V3 mostly. But I'm sure that doesn't mean it's exclusive to her. Obviously not, since there is some non-Vicky stuff in it. I'm sure when Mike 3 comes out there will be plenty for him and we'll hear the Vicky people squealing ;o). Since Vicky 3 is my all-time favorite, I can't complain about the offerings in the PC. But that's just me :o). Laurie

My rant is a bit the other way, There are some things i really like to buy , without getting a member of the platinium club. These things are not in premium area.( the new robe....) and of course i would pay more .

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 9:01 AM

Eh. I don't particularly care if it's for Mike or for Vicki, as long as they produce enough of it so that I /see/ new items every week. I know they just moved into a new building, which is great, but sheesh. 4 items in 2 weeks? (The robe DOES look really good. Gonna buy it later...)

Well, if you're not happy with the PC..you can always go over to RDNA and buy out of their Real Deal at $2.50.. Hell, they even have textures for mushrooms...more variey for sure :) I don't know....right now the hottest target product is V3, at least at DAZ...she's their baby,..so it seems to me the new items would be more for her... I wwould prefer to see more stuff like the cyclorama, ojexts, cars, more different characters, and so forth... Most of the older stuff is gradually showing up in the loft.. There has been a pretty good mix, IMO... Some of these were in their store before 34 pose sets for a variety of characters.. 10 objects and props, such as SS Balconey 16 Texture sets for above 2 excellent lighting sets 9 new figures..toonimals, etc..plus they put in quite a few older models Plus the tons of hair and clothing items....

nods Again, in a lot of ways, it's been worth the price. I've figured the prices for what I bought at the cheeper price versus what I could have paid, and even at 99, it was cheeper. But a lot of it was stuff I'd /not/ have bought, if it wasn't so cheap.

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 9:31 AM

My point is that DAZ3d promised a lot of items weekly. I'm seeing some very good items, but not a lot of them. And a lot of what I'm seeing, I don't want/don't need/can't use anyway. If you're really big on V3? Get the platnum club! However, if you're like me, and occasionally like to get a deal for poor forgotten Mike, too...

Eowyn ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 9:45 AM

sigh The people at DAZ are only human, they can't make things by snapping their fingers. Looking at the Platinum Club featured items, there is a LOT of stuff there. So WHAT if the past two weeks have been slow? Some other weeks have been anything but slow.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 9:51 AM

I'm broke either way :) So slow is good for me right now... Who's Mike ????

Eowyn? They're my feelings, nothing more. I don't care if there's a lot of stuff there. Four items in two weeks is down right sad, especially when half of them are coming from outside sources, if not all. Like I said. What they've been putting out is gorgeous work, but there's not enough of it, right now. And frankly, I'm about fed up with DAZ as it is because Mike 3 is /still/ 'several months off'. Most of us at gayposerart.com figure they've trashed the product in favor of the V3 male. Which is stupid, because, while the face is gorgeous... the body is less than perfect. Again, it's a RANT. It's not SUPPOSED to make sense!

steveshanks ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 10:19 AM

Its the old case of you can't please all the people all the time but you can.....well you know the rest ;o)...now while i'm a member of the PC i can't recall exactly what went up when, but if the last 2 items in the last two weeks are the dress and cloak i'd say Anton and gang are doing damn well to have made those in two weeks (unless they have a secret app that does all for you LOL)...the fact is some things take longer than others, be it coz they are more complex or need more research, and then there is time for texturing after it is modeled......Steve

Eowyn ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 10:23 AM

shrug Well I find it just difficult to sit and swallow all this because I know some of the people who work their butts off so we'd have cool new PC items. Look at the clothing textures, for example. They're not simple flood fills. They're extremely detailed, tweaked to perfection. You don't make something like that in ten minutes. And the new V3 clothes... The clothes include practically all her body morphs and it takes a hell of a long time to build all those morphs in there. So yeah, I can understand why they're not releasing a bunch of clothes every week. One more thing. I don't recall them promising us tons of new items each week. If I remember right, they said there would be new items every week. Four items in two weeks counts as "new items every week", imho. I'd rather get four high quality items in two weeks than 8 low quality items in one week. Just my two cents.

WaxTextures ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 10:50 AM

I'm pretty thrilled with the PC and the discount on Premium store items so no rants on that - although I would like to see more Mike stuff.

Khrys + Irish - regarding the comments on the 'posability' of the Fantasy Morphing Dress. At first, I too was frustrated but since I'd committed to making a texture set (not-so-subliminal note: just released here) I figured I should get over that hurdle.

The biggest revelation (and help) was when I turned on full tracking while posing the "skirt" bodyhandle - after twiddling any pose dials in the "Body" group relating to movement. I look at the skirt body handle as the final tweak in my pose. Slap a sticky note on your monitor to remind yourself to turn full tracking OFF after you're done. Otherwise it slows down everything.

Also, when I'm posing V3 in this dress, I make sure transparency on the garment is turned off.

Yeah, I can't complain at all about the PC offerings, not or in the past. There have been periods where they were putting stuff up there that wasn't particularly of interest to me, but there are so many items in the back catalog that I still managed to get a couple each time I placed an order. This is the way a subscriptions work. You plunk down your cash and hope that what you saw at issue 1 was the same.....it is a risk. I don't want to flame anyone, but these sort of rants don't do anyone any good. The most likely outcome would be for DAZ to pull the PC for fear of being unable to satisfy enough people to get the cash needed to make it a viable sales channel. I would hate to see that. I've found many of my favorite new toys in the offerings at PC. If you have a problem, email someone with some suggestions of what you would like...and be patient. V3 is the focus of their marketing....they still have a long way to go before the next big figure is out. Once it is ready, it will then assume the focus (and become the theme new offerings) Eric

Crescent ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 11:00 AM

There's not as many items right now, but damn are they good! Stuffing that many morphs into a clothing item really slows down the creation process. It looks like right now they're doing quality over quantity. And for $2 an item, it's pretty impressive. Besides, don't forget the additional discount you get on DAZ original stuff. I think I've saved the membership price right there. I do agree, I wish that all of the PC stuff was available in the regular store as well. Ah, well. Rant away, just be prepared for rants back. ;-) Cheers!

Lucy_Fur ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 11:09 AM

Since the PC section discount is only one aspect of being a PC member - I'm not so bothered when new stuff doesn't show up all that often. I also always check for new things in the Premiere & Loft section to buy at the additional discount allowed by being a PC member - as well as looking in the free area & free archive.
I seem to remember that items sold in the PC were going to be (some) DAZ creations as well as certain independent creators who have an agreement with DAZ to have their items sold in the PC. Some of the lack of new items that you want, Khyrs, may be due to not many artists wanting to trade off few high priced sales for more low priced sales.

If it weren't for the Platinum Club Savings and Discounts, I wouldn't have much Quality Poser stuff. It is one of the best deal out there, along with a Lifetime membership to Poserworld. :) I prefer Quality over Quantity. So thank you Daz, and Steve. :)

I can't complain about the Platinum Club (cause I like what they've got to offer). Especially when there's Poserstyle, Poserworld, PoserPros, RDNA, 3D Commune, Trav's Prop's club...and so on. A well-rounded community IMHO. Especially when you have people like Steve Shanks (God love 'im) who will make or at least try to make any request one might have. You can lump Trav in with that one too. Laurie

I bought a Platinum Club membership when they first became available and I love it. Yes, sometimes there is just one or two very high-quality, detailed items per week, instead of lots of little ones, but that's hardly something to complain about as far as I'm concerned. Just the Fantasy Dress, the Cloak and Laurie's textures made the Platinum Club worth it for me, but there have been so many other great items... too many to count. I can't even remember the number of times I've loaded up my cart full to bursting with cool items and been amazed to see that the final price at checkout was only ten or twenty dollars. My membership has paid for itself many times over already. As someone else has already mentioned, the only thing that's a bigger bargain for the price is Poserworld, and they give you such an incredible amount of great stuff for the membership fee that it is the 3d version of a candy store. :)

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 1:19 PM

I thought the PClub was 1 item a week and the 30% discounts least that's what I personally expected when I joined the PClub. some weeks it has been only 1 item, but even that has been rare, mostly 2 or even MORE items a week. Hard to please everybody all the time. I personally don't like some of the items in PClub, so I just don't buy them no biggie. of course I've done my fair share of bitchin about the PClub, generally when only Pose packages get added, can't win 'em all. If you have a sugjetion or something that your just dieing for email Daz, they may not do it, but then again, they definetly can't help the users if they don't hear from them.

Jaager ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 1:24 PM

The math in the rant is a bit strange, I way I learned it 2 x 52 = 104 , not 26. Maybe the validity of the rant is proportional to the validity of the math.

Crescent ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 1:54 PM

I think he means that he has 13 weeks left on the PC membership, so he's expecting only 26 more items if they stay with two per week. Actually, that's a bit odd as I joined Day 1, I believe, and I have just over 24 weeks left. (Pulled out me trusty calculator and everything.)

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 3:22 PM

Actually, I mentioned it. And it does make sense, if you know how to read. I'm not pleased with DAZ in general. My attempts to give honest feedback were brushed off and now I'm being harassed by Anton. So yeah. Real pleased with DAZ.

"I'm not pleased with DAZ in general. My attempts to give honest feedback were brushed off and now I'm being harassed by Anton. So yeah. Real pleased with DAZ." What's one got to do with the other? Anton doesn't own or run DAZ that I'm aware of. You started out by griping about the DAZ Platinum Club. Then you singled out a fellow-member here who happens to be employed by them. He has the same right to state his opinions here as you. If you feel his reaction is harassment, perhaps you should look at your own comments that provoked his reactions with a more objective eye. Because Anton is employed by DAZ and is their general liason for the Renderosity forum. I told him in polite words that I didn't mean it offensively, and apologised. I got told to mind my own business, in a public thread. I've said all I've had to say here, because the little happy, lovey DAZ3d bunch has shown up like I figured they would, eventually. You've not changed my opinions of the club one bit, if anything, made them more set in many things.

I know I'm going to regret this but: There's nothing wrong with an occasional generalized rant of frustration and the need to find out if anybody out there feels the same - I've done it myself. However, making any one person the focus of this is just not cricket. 1. If you have a problem with anybody as a member of Renderosity and feel you've been hounded send a copy of the offending material to whomever is in charge of such things here. 2. If you feel you've been treated unfaily by an employee of DAZ, send a copy of any documents or communication to the management of DAZ. 3. Try to act like an adult. -Nancy.

Hi Khrys, If you find the Platinum Club is too expensive, I suggest you look out for those products in marketplace, some of them are great deals, and also the runtime dna $2.50 stuffs. What I know is depending on where you come from, I wouldn't call a USD99 subscription a good deal. meaning if your country currency value is /4, that would set you back $400, and you still have to pay $8 per model. This is just a real example of a friend who says why he couldn't buy the poser stuffs as a lunch in his country cost only $3. As for me, if I start earning money from poser, I'll start buying tons of stuffs lol Right now I'm trying to resist all those cool stuffs coming out recently, but I know I'll still buy =p... nck nck :)
