CuriousLabs is working on a SR3 and will be out very soon. Ringo

It will be interesting to see which way this pulls. At the moment, Eovia has one big plus: they know how to write and revise programs. The newest version of Amapi is improved in all the ways that Poser 5 -should- have been improved. Amapi 7 opens no vast new horizons; it just works much better and easier than Amapi 6. Eovia understood all the weak points, and started from scratch to fix them. And in the other corner, CL brings to this marriage .... um, ..... well, .... must be something ..... ... still thinking ....

...and we're all waiting for it. But we stopped holding our breath months ago.

brycetech ( ) posted Thu, 01 May 2003 at 9:54 PM

for my 2cents I think this bodes well for both companies and all associated programs. In my experience with Eovia, they try to listen to the users..what do you want and how can we make it better/easier to use for the old hands as well as new users. Lets face it, you cant just rely on your old customers..ya gotta get new ones too and it has to be easy for them to use your product else you have not gained anything cause they will quit trying. I'd anticipate carrara3 being able to fully use poser animations and maybe a way to even talk directly between the two apps. will be interesting to see what happens. :)

Maybe they'll pick up Bryce and it can be one big happy family again.

Dave-So ( ) posted Thu, 01 May 2003 at 10:13 PM

now that would be great :) Bryce was on the for sale block...not sure if Corel is still trying to sell it or not..

All of the "strategic partnerships" in the world will be meaningless for poser as a viable program with a future, until it is RE-WRITTEN to comply with modern standards such as hardware acceleration etc. etc. etc. YAWN!!!!!

advert should be in product showcase. my 2 cents

Jaager ( ) posted Thu, 01 May 2003 at 11:44 PM

Now, if they can manage to get the Pose room functions (at least) to work inside Carrara, the way that P3 did inside RDS 5.0, this might come to something. But up to now, Carrara was pointed ignored when the programs that have plug-ins in development for Poser were discussed. At the minimum, reading a PZ3 in Carrara would be nice. having Poser as a room in Carrara would really be something. That would be most of the fixes. Carrara has a hair growing plug-in, so the hair collision defect gets bypassed.

So far the only thing I've seen in all these "Stratigic Partnerships" is bundled items, no improvements or modification to any programs. Has Vue come out with an update to support P5 yet? No. Anyone else? I don't know of any. And it is an advert, and should be in Product Showcase. Side note: Katherine from CL say's they've got problems in the SR3 release and it'll be delayed a bit. Thank goodness they caught it before the release.

Maybe the Mac version of Poser 5 should wait till we all see whats going to happen after June and the WWDC.

aleks ( ) posted Fri, 02 May 2003 at 3:23 AM

"Poser and Carrara Studio, originally developed by the same company, share the same elegant user interface, unmatched ease of use and affordability," can we have something less elegant but faster and more along the gui guidelines for windows in next release, please?

RadiositySG ( ) posted Fri, 02 May 2003 at 4:09 AM

erggh....I'd KILL to just have OpenGL support instead of this crappy GDI renderer..

sargebear ( ) posted Fri, 02 May 2003 at 6:19 AM

well this is MAY,, isn't Poser 5 for Mac suppose to come out in JUNE , thats in one month,, think they will make the deadline before the SR3? whom ever they are with?

Hi, This quote is very important. "Even more significantly, it marks the beginning of a valuable partnership that will focus on future development as well asand integration as well." The key word here is INTEGRATION. With is very good news and if Eovia and CuriousLabs will share resourcee I would imagine that the OpenGL engine that Carrara Studio uses can be added to Poser. The new Management at CuriousLabs is more responsive in getting things done and creating partnerships. Personally like so many of you, have always wanted a Poser to Carrara plugin. From the Integration statement I know it will happened. Ringo

..hope this "Strategic Partnership" does turn out to be more than the same "Strategic Partnership" CL has with E-on. They are still pointing the finger at each other while all of us poser5/vue4 users sit in the corner with a big thumb up our butt waiting for SOMEONE to update the damned code so we can import poser 5 statics without having both p4 and p5 on the machine (insane) I agree with whoever said above that these "Strategic Partnerships" seem to only be new bundles of the same software.. CL is sure making a lot of "Strategic Partnerships" ... I hope it pans out for them, and us

{advert should be in product showcase.} The "no advertising or mentionting of products in the Poser Forum" only applies to Renderosity Merchants who are trying to eke out some extra money with their products (and help support the site). Sponsors of the site (such as CL) don't have to play by the same rules. Sponsors' "advertising" messages can be posted wherever they please. But, yes, any posting that tells the price of the procust, where to purchase the product, and the features of the product is an "advertisement".

bijouchat ( ) posted Fri, 02 May 2003 at 11:20 AM

I agree with Jaager and Ringo. But, I'm waiting to see something very very important before I upgrade to P5. A plugin for Carrara... and not Carrara to Poser. I want Poser to Carrara. I only use Poser for character posing and animation, I would LOVE it ... if I could manipulate Poser figures directly in Carrara, read in PZ3 files... the works. Carrara's weak point is character animation, that is Poser's strength. Carrara beats the tar out of Poser in everything else. I would get P5 instead of waiting to see what Daz offers if I got that wish... hint hint

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 02 May 2003 at 2:08 PM

I echo those who want a Poser to Carrara plug-in. I have Carrara 1.2, when I've imported Poser figures in Carrara the textures have been off. Maybe it's something I've been doing, I'm not sure--but it would be very nice especially in light of the "strategic partnership" if a import filter like the one from P4 to Vue 4 could be developed. Vue imports P4 figures and textures flawlessly. With this sort of compatibility for Poser to Carrara I'd be more interesting in purchasing the Carrara 2.0 upgrade.

bijouchat ( ) posted Fri, 02 May 2003 at 3:17 PM

import as vertex models, polymesh per material, and scale up the entire scene 2100 percent after import. Daz's figure eyes are horrible, except for V3. Use eye props with all other figures. I recommend Blackhearted's and Cake1's props. With C1 eyes, delete the middle material in the vertex modelller, so you don't get artifacts. Everything should render fine then.
